Zig Giveaway and the March Pattern Bundle...

I've released the March Pattern Bundle a day early due to the very hectic week I have ahead of me before flying down to Melbourne for Let's Get Stitched.

The stitching of the two designs I'm sharing down there are finished and the patterns sheets printed and ready to be added to the paper pattern packs - just as soon as I actually write the patterns and take the photos for the cover! GULP...just a little behind...that's all.

Anyhow, remember that these monthly bundles are older Elefantz designs that will be permanently retired from sale in April, so you have the entire month of March to purchase the triple set HERE in my shop for just $5 US before they disappear forever. That's only $1.66 each...bargain, huh!?

The three patterns in this bundle are in a single pdf file that you can purchase and store in your Craftsy library until you need it, or download immediately to your computer.

Inside this bundle you will receive the patterns to make the three projects below. They have fully photographed steps, materials list, pattern sheets, and simply written instructions to make your sewing easier, too!

The "Cross My Heart" sewing set with carry handle...

The "Shabby Roses Bag" with applique and embroidery across a sweetly frilled front pocket...

...and the "Thoughts & Ideas" journal and bookmark set!

The sewing set and the journal set make up rather quickly, with just a small amount of embroidery to do.
The bag will take you a couple of days.

I think all three of these projects make wonderful gifts, but you may like to use the journal yourself and store it in the bag - cause that's what I did!
But the sewing set would be perfect to give a young girl just starting out on her stitching journey, don't you think?

IMPROMPTU Zig Giveaway!

There was a lot of chit chat in the comments and via email after yesterday's blog post about the Zig Millenium pens I use to trace my designs onto fabric, SOOOOO....I thought I'd have a giveaway so some of you could try the Zig for yourselves!

I'll post worldwide, and I have 3 to give away.

Just leave one comment below, telling me what you currently use to trace designs onto fabric before stitching.
And make sure I can contact you in case you win by leaving your blog or email address too.

Three winners will be randomly drawn on March 4th. Good luck everyone!

COMMENTS and ENTRIES now closed. Winners to be announced in the March 5th blog post.

Now I'll leave you with all that, and get back to the very exciting task of pattern writing.
(did I say exciting?? maybe with some chocolate it would be....nah, not even with chocolate)

Have a marvelous day!
hugs

Your designs are all lovely as always Jenny! Thanks for the chance to win one of those pens! I use a water soluble blue marker for marking my stitching. I just spritz the stitchery with water when I'm done and the lines all go away. Then I press it to dry it and it's done! :0)

I love all of your designs Jenny - I'm still hoarding magazine tear-outs for when I have more sewing time! I currently use a lead, I mean graphite pencil, but I'm rethinking that following your previous post. I would love to try the zig pens :)

I'm not embroidering much myself, except my cross stitch which doesn't require a transfer pen. But my daughter has just discovered embroidery, doing a lot of "free style" stuff (she's very "free style" about everything and great at it), but I know she is finding more and more patterns on line and would probably love these to try. So if I win I would give the pen to her. Thanks so much for the giveaway! I just love your work.

Generous giveaway Jenny, sounds like the yoga beneficial right now, will have to search for a stitching show in Sydney. In the past for tracings and markings I have used a marker which has an eraser section at the other end for going over finished work erasing all signs of marker, also good for change of mind etc, downsides the markings can fade/disappear before work completed and wonder what affect the chemicals in these markers have on the fabrics and stitching over time, some in the group/class I attended at the time would not use it for these reasons. Originally I did try pencil but found markings visible on finished work. Have a good day. Judithann

Hi Jenny, I use either a pigma pen in light brown or a Pilot Frixion pen, pink at present, that can be ironed off once the stitchery is completed. I've also used a blue water soluble pen in the past. I love all your designs and reading your blog. Best wishes, Katrina in New Zealand

I'm still using a (*graphite*) lol pencil ! Iv'e tried several marking pens and always go back to my plain old pencil so if I won one of the ZIGs I may find out an easier way to mark on my fabrics! Thank you for the chance. I'm in love with the 'Shabby' bag, thank you for that too!

I am using a pencil. I haven't liked any of the marking pens. I have not tried the ZIG brand. Thank you for the chance to win one.

Still using graphite pencil...there is always one lying nearby when I need it. I've always been reluctant to try something permanent...at least with pencil I can "erase" my errors. Perhaps it would just be better if I traced more slowly..but my arm gets so tired tracing with my design taped to the door (whine, whine, LOL) Love the lettering of the "shabby"...a fun font!

Hi Jenny. For the last year of so, I have been using a Frixion pen. I love that if I trace it out wrong, I can touch the iron to that spot and remove it. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

Most of the time I use a pigma brown pen but occasionally I will use a pencil or a blue water erase pen. None of those work well on every fabric so I switch back and forth. I'd love to try one of these - looked them up on Amazon but couldn't find a brown one as a single pen. I'd rather not buy a set until I try one first! blessings, marlene

Wonderful scheme a friend showed me last year. Trace onto backing/whisperweft a mirror image of design with 0.1mm Permanent ink pen. Hand sew (running stitch with smallest stitch on Right side of fabric) with a shade of machine thread slightly darker than background fabric. Only mark major lines and dots for petals, circles for flowers, broken lines for stems. Small lines can be added as embroidering later. Sew stitches just over lines and tacking lines can be easily removed when finished with no marking on surface of your work. A bit of work to begin with but lovely when finished.

What do I use for tracing? Well, sometimes whatever is the closest at hand. My favorite for years was my handy sharp #2 pencil...and I still go to it a lot. But, I also use the water soluble red pen from Berol that I found from a blog post...ordered them from the UK. I'm still a bit nervous of them...I mean...they are RED! But, so far, they have completely come out of any fabric I've tested. I don't use them for any of my crazy quilt work because that is sometimes not possible to wet after stitching...and/or is someone else's block that I'm stitching on.

I use Frixion most of the time now, but sometimes the red Pigma, and I do have an entire set of 8 colors of the Zig pens, plus a set of black ones in varying widths. They aren't always easy to find here, but I got mine from a University bookstore. They are wonderful, and in case people don't know, they are acid free for heirloom projects, paper or fabric. It's okay if I'm not entered in the drawing, since I do have quite a few of them. =) I hadn't thought about using them to trace embroidery, until you mentioned it's what you use.

I currently use a mechanical pencil. I sometimes use the 'purple' disappearing ink pen, but found it disappears too quickly for my stitching even if doing a small area. A Zig pen sounds wonderful especially as it feels like a namesake. At a previous job they allowed shortened names on our name tags, but didn't ask how I spelled mine - Sigi - they just sent it how they thought and it said - Ziggy - needless to say, a new tag was ordered, but my children enjoyed using the old one when playing dress-up!!

I most often use a brown Pigma pen to trace my patterns. But I use a washable pen or a pen I can take away with the iron.

I have a pencil I bought that uses heat but I haven't used it yet because I'm still reading tutorials on how to do things. This is my first time here, I signed up to follow you via email. I love your blog, you have such pretty things. I don't think I'm a no-reply, but just in case....dawnm1993 at gmail dot com
Thanks for the giveaway, and have a wonderful day!

Again thanks to you I may get something done. lol. of course I'd love to try the new zig pens as well. We tend to use Transfer Eze or Fabri-Solvy to save the time and energy required to transfer designs onto fabric. Both will feed through an ink-jet printer set to draft mode, and neither will gum up your needle. Once all the stitching is done just soak the piece and the product will dissolve. We do tend to cut away all sections of either product where there will be no stitching before peeling the product from the paper backing and hand pressing it onto the background fabric. Since neither product is inexpensive, when compared to the use of other marking tools, we save the sections that are cut away to use in future on smaller stitcheries. My daughter, who does her stitching through batting, wasn't too keen on trying it at first for fear it would gum up her needle, but all it took was one try and she's been hooked on it ever since. No more taping the pattern to the window and drawing off onto shifting fabric. We figure the extra cost is worth it given you save the stress on your shoulders and hands as well as time to draw off complicated designs. That saved time can be used on the actual fun part of the activity...stitching!
