Meet Merri...

Mr E and I have adopted a puppy.

We've named her Merri because we wanted her to have a happy and joyful name.

Merri is 8 weeks old and a Labrador Retriever / Staffordshire cross.

Along with her 5 siblings she was dumped at around 4 weeks old and has been fostered by carers from Angel Paws until we took her into our family on Monday.

She is gentle, affectionate, and likes to sit on our feet.

I've remembered what it was like getting up to each of my seven babies all those years ago.
Fortunately my sleep deprivation for her toilet trips should only last a few more weeks. And truly, I don't mind. I'm just tired.

 Isn't she a sweetheart?

She has her very own room too!

Plus toys and a big bear to cuddle as she sleeps on her new quilt.

Bob the dog has now left our home to go live with his mama, Blossom, who has missed her little fellow. Blossom got Bob for her 14th birthday and she is 21 now so it's a blessing for both of them to be permanently together again.

Princess Sophie, on the other hand, gave Merri a sniff and has refused to acknowledge her since, making her throne our bed where Merri can clearly see her 'reigning'.
I'm praying Sophie's heart softens soon as Merri is quite taken with her feline sister.

We've had 3 toilet 'accidents' in 24 hours, which I think is pretty good, and my daughter Aisha is helping with newbie puppy owner advice as she has two beautiful dogs of her own and has been through it all.
Puppy pre-school starts in 4 weeks so we'll have more skills to learn there, but in the meantime we're actually doing okay - better than I imagined.

I even got a little stitching done while she slept for a few hours yesterday afternoon...
The floral print was a gift from Kristyne at Pretty By Hand and I teamed it with pink gingham and Cosmo threads to create another of my bird designs.
I'll house the bird inside a quilt block made from the pretty floral fabric when I catch up on my sleep.
From there, no idea what it will become.
Ideas?

I hear a puppy crying, better go...

hugs

She is adorable Jenny & would melt anyones heart. I love it when people give homes to animals that need rescuing rather than choose to spend loads of money on one. There are so many 4-legged friends out there needing homes. Bless you both. I did wonder yesterday what Princess Sophie thought of the new family member. And yes, you are right, the broken sleep phase will pass. Isnt it funny when we snatch those moments of stitching when they are asleep ... takes you right back to those baby years when those couple of hours were so precious.

How lucky for Merri that she has come into a home that will love her. She is so cute. I just want to give her a pat. I'm sure Princess Sophie and Merri will become great friends. Years ago we had a dog, Dugal, and a cat, Lucy. They would pretend to hate each other but if you were lucky enough to sneak up on them, you would find them cuddled up together sleeping. Once they realised you were there, they jumped up and separated to keep their show of not liking each other! Have fun with the toilet training, Jenny.

Your bird stitchery is beautiful too, Jenny. I love the colours. xx

She's adorable! We have a black lab also. Her name is Calli and she's 11. She's not as active as she once was and sleeps quite a bit, but she's a lover and likes to sit on our feet. She's over 100 lbs so that can be uncomfortable! You'll get past the puppy stage soon. But beware - our Calli loved to chew my plants in the backyard!
Enjoy your new baby!

What a cute, adorable puppy and so great that you adopted a rescue. I don't understand people that just abandon animals like that. It is so great that she has joined a family that will give her the love and attention she needs.

I just want to kiss her cute little puppy face!!!! Sophie will warm up in time....I'm sure Merri is a little bouncy for her taste yet, but one good swipe of the paw will put Merri in her place. I'll never forget when we brought Hermione home...we had two dogs at the time, a Weimeraner and an English Springer Spaniel. Hermione walked in like a boss, the dogs came running, and two swipes with claws later Hermione was crowned Queen. Of course, it helped that she would sit on the table and drop treats over the edge for the dogs.....they adored her.

I have no ideas on anything, but I do love that bird on that gingham! Merri's feet are ... well, large enough for a nice big lab. =) Her face is so sweet and looks purely lab to me, but I don't know what the retriever you mentioned looks like. She looks very sweet and quite intelligent. Cats take their time, but I'm sure Queen Sophie will come around in time.

What a beautiful pup. Love her little face and eyes...Boy those eyes have character. My daughter adopted a cat over the summer....So sweet when we are able to take in unwanted animals.....Savannah's cat Ember is adorable... And Savannah loves that cat more than anything....Animals sure do get to us....It is amazing how much love and acceptance they offer us humans. And they ask for so little in return.

She is adorable. Oh how sad, first Charlie goes back home and now Bob. I'm sure Merri will be a wonderful companion. Hope the Queen will come around and be friends with her new house mate. Your bird is so cute and such pretty colors and fabrics.

What a beautiful Merri! How lovely! In Brazil the abandonment of animals is huge problem! People do not have pity ... What a beautiful attitude, Jenny! It certainly repay with your unconditional love and loyalty. Blessed are those who pity the suffering. God bless you immensely.
Here at home we have 9 dogs, 8 removed from the street and welcomed by us. Are beautiful! Recently adopted two more, one baby, thrown into the street on their own! Witnesses said someone in a red car, simply opened the door and threw the little dog on the sidewalk! It is only 3 months old! Is now well!
And one more beautiful art out of his blessed hands. Loved!
hug,
ju

What a sweetie Merrie is. I miss having a dog, but that may change soon. And a little loss of sleep is well worth their company. Keep us posted on her growing up and how she does in puppy school. =)

Darling little puppy! Merri is so lucky to have found herself in your home. I remember how much work and how sleep deprived I felt when our Oliver was a puppy. At least it doesn't last long and the love received is worth far more than a few sleepless nights! You embroidery is beautiful.

Congrats! I can handle the accidents, as long as they don't chew on stuff they are not supposed to chew on.

Jenny, Merri is absolutely precious! She reminds me a little bit of my Miss Dodger who is half Golden Retriever and half Boxer. Dodger is all black with a few small spots of white. Those floppy ears and large feet are nothing compared to her tail. LOL. If she is anything like my now 90 pound Dodger, that tail is going to mean that everything breakable will have to be relocated to higher heights. It feels so wonderful to have a fur baby to love and cuddle with. They add such delight and laughter to a home. Our Miss Chicca took quite awhile to accept Dodger, she will still hiss to inform the dogs that they are to close to her, but only once did she ever use her claws on Dodger and it was just a very quick jab that landed in the center of Dodgers nose...which hurt Dodgers feelings far more than it caused any pain. Keep us posted quite often about her progress and I will say a prayer that you can get some rest. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. Thank you for sharing and have a great fantastic day stitching and playing!

Merri is absolutely precious and I am very partial to black and white dogs!

Congratulations on the addition of Merri to your family! Bless her heart, she looks like such a love. I can't, for the life of me, understand how someone can abandon innocent little puppies and kittens. Thank goodness Merri and her siblings were fostered with loving kindness. Good luck with the "baby sleep stage"; it does pass after a short while. I remember our Alaskan Malamute, Sedona, cried at night for the first week until she "trained us"!!! She got us properly trained to realize that a king size bed meant plenty of room for her, her feline sibling, and us parents! I'm looking forward to your updates of Merri ~ have fun!!!

Lovely name for a lovely puppy. Looks like she'll settle in well with you. Cats do take a while to adapt to strangers on their patch. Bad enough it being another cat but a doggy!!!!

Your puppy is really cute! :-) I hope she works out well for you and that your kitty gets used to her eventually. Our cat would be extremely upset if we adopted a puppy. hehe :-) Puppies are a lot of work, though. We've talked about getting one, but so far we haven't felt like it was a good time to take on such a project. Maybe sometime.

Your embroidery is so pretty. I'm thinking of making something small to put in a sample quilt I'm trying to make for my Aussie niece.

Merri looks such a sweetheart. I'm sure she will bring you &Mr E a lot of joy. I find that when I'm down my Sophie gives me a reason to smile.

Your little gingham birdie is so gorgeous and I immediately thought of it in a baby quilt.

Dear Jenny, Congratulations on your new arrival. She looks just as sweet as can be. Don't you love puppy breath when they're small? Bless your heart for adopting instead of buying. Wishing you all many wonderful happy years together.

Merri is adorable. How big do they think she'll get. I do hope Sophie gives in and becomes friends with Merri.
I adopted our Lilley (4 at the time) from the breeder which means no potty training. We've had her almost a year now and she's a joy..
