I'm still adjusting to the heat of a tropical winter and my sewing room gets the afternoon sun quite severely, so I spent all morning stitching my Shabby Roses quilt top, ready to be posted off to Cheryl for quilting. The mornings are definitely going to be my machine stitching time, then I can sit in the air-conditioned living room of an afternoon and hand stitch. :-)
So, what do you think? Do you like it?
Now, the binding...I'd like some input. :-)
On my original quilt design I used the green stripe fabric for the binding, however, I've now decided it may be too much so I'm hedging towards the little rose and spot fabric from the applique as the binding.
I think the green stripe again will be overkill, whereas the more subdued and pretty applique print would look softer - what do you think? Blossom wants me to use the wild pink paisley print because she likes the brightness.
Might help if I show you the fabrics in detail. ;-)

It's beautiful, Jenny! I'm for neither of those fabrics. I think it needs a solid binding. I prefer the green, but you could do it in pink or rose, too.

Jenny it is beautyful. Im started too en running in now. I have finished 1,2,en 3 en 4,5,en 6 are painted and ready to stich. I found some rosefabric and think of your BOM. It is so much fun. Thank you so much and i'm loking forward for the 7th and 8th blok.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt, I really need to get myself organised and do some more of the blocks. I think a darkish binding would frame it well, either the paisley print or a plain colour.

ReplyDeleteHi Jenny! I think the binding with the small rose print used for the applique would make it look even finer, as this is a very "delicate" quilt.

Frame it in style! It is beautiful! My first thought was the green stripe cut on bias, but the paisley sounds great too. binding is so narrow and has such a big job to do in such small space...I say make it bright!

Oh Jenny its stunning! I'm with the girls that have suggested a soft plain colour for the border. A soft green would be lovely.

OH Jenny its just devine I love it dont know much about colour but I love it the way it is and I think a pink border would be really nice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Blossom. I have been working on my blocks and have 5 completed. I just love them and I enjoy how easy they are for a takealong pack. I love it when someone looks over my shoulder and comments on what I am making. I think I may try my hand at a scalloped border.
ReplyDeleteJen the quilt is lovely and I am thinking wait until its quilted and you will know what binding to put on it. I, myself would go for something that 'frames' it and so a darker green or the pink is what I would use. Either one you choose I am sure it's going to look stunning.

ReplyDeleteMy first reaction when I saw it was, you know what's missing? Polka dots! I think a polka dot binding would just send your design over the moon and back.
But I'm an artist and a relatively newbie quilter so perhaps I'm way off base here.
No matter what you choose, it's absolutely lovely. Go with your first instinct because that's usually the best one.
