Life IS Special

It's a lovely relaxed Saturday morning here, and what nicer way to spend it than making something pretty for my October 'home revamp'.
I began the hand embroidery on this door hanger a few days ago and finished the machine stitching today. The thing that attracted me to Amanda's design was the message of affirmation...

...yes, life is special.
It's something I want our family to be constantly reminded of so I have hung it on the handle of the back door - each time we leave the house we can see it and carry that thought with us into the day.

In the design itself I love these little rosebuds!! A french knot for the rose, a straight stitch stem, and a lazy daisy either side for the leaves.

I had a few vintage buttons...

...and the entire hanger is filled with dried lavender flowers, such a soothing fragrance that rushes into the house each time the door opens and the wind follows.

I'm going to design some door hangers of my own now as I'd like every door to have a positive message. Do you have some favourite affirmation quotes you can share with me?

How are you going with your own October home makeover?

Hugs
Jenny

  1. This may sound odd, but I tell my Daughter all the time "you tickle me." By that I mean that she makes me smile and feel all happy inside!

  3. Hi Jenny, I also think life is special and we should leave each day as a big gift!
My october home makeover consist in changing one of my house room in a stitching room for me and my sister.
It's a hard work and I don't think we will be able to finish it within the end of the month! I'm so happy about having a stitching room or, better, "a room on my own" !!!!
    Have a nice day.

  5. Love the concept of having door hangers with positive affirmations! The scented one you have made is very pretty. My favourite saying at te moment is "Keep Clam and Carry on" - I have it hanging up at my desk at work.

  6. ooooh - pretty

favorite sayings for me are "this, too, shall pass" and "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" (that's Vulcan) and "if you can't go under it, over it, around it or through it - then you had better negotiate with it" and, of course, "life is uncertain - eat dessert first"

  8. My father loves to tell about how every morning his mother would open the door wide saying "Entre la gracia de Dios!" It means Let God's grace enter in! I thought it was such a beautiful phrase I made a plaque with the saying, which hangs near my parents' front door.

    Beautiful door hanger, Jenny!

  10. Hi Jenny
    Love your door hanger.
I have two favourite sayings which I have stitched on quilt labels and on gifts for family and friends.
    Live Well
    Laugh Often
    Love Much
and this one (bit long for a door hanger though)
May your day be fashioned with joy, sprinkled with dreams and touched by the miracle of love.

  11. Hi Jenny--Love your door sign thingy--cute and what a cute idea---my saying that I seem to live by is --Just DO It---that has helped me though some tough times--3 simple little words--but they can pack a big punch!!!!
My goodness I see you are up to 586 followers--just don't forget us "older" followers that have been around for awhile!!!!

  12. Jenny that's lovely! And I love the idea of hanging them on every door. You know my favorite, sweet happy life, lol - I also love "life is short, wear your party pants". I've been wanting to do some wallhangings with scripture verses on them myself, but they'd be too long for a door hanger. What about Val Laird's "What is Love" designs?

  13. What a beautiful creation Jen! :-)
LOVE IT! I'm also big on positive affirmations, to hold a positive thought in one single moment can change the rest of your day. We have so much power in our thoughts!
My absolute favourite is "You are loved". "I am loved".

    And I love you too!
    Hugs darling girl!

It's always nice to receive feedback on a blog post, so *thank you* for taking time to comment!
I will try to reply via email unless you are a 'no reply blogger' which means you'll have to check for my reply in the comments. Of course, life is a rather hazardous activity, isn't it? So if I don't respond to your comment that's the reason why - life simply stepped in...
