The Lily Pond...

A while ago Mr E and I were driving around the back tracks of Inkerman, North Queensland, when we were surprised to come across a beautiful lily pond 'in the middle of nowhere'.
The road had seen better days, and the surrounding landscape was dry and overgrown, yet there by the side of an ugly gravelly track was exquisite beauty...

If I'd blinked as we drove, or had my head down, it would have remained unseen; so small was this narrow water hole that on closer inspection appeared to wind its way on and on through the trees...

Our eyes were drawn to the lilies and I was grateful that we both had our cameras as I wasn't sure we'd find this place again. But what we discovered in this wilderness pond was beyond our wildest expectations...

An entire ecosystem right before our eyes...

I learned a lesson that day.
Beauty is often hidden in the ordinary...

  7. Our pond lilies here in Ontario are floating on the water. They are white or yellow. Those pink ones are gorgeous. I can't help wondering if there are alligators around when you go off the beaten track!

  13. These photos are magnificent. Are these actually lotus lillies? The seed pods look like them. Maybe water lillies have the same seed pod.

It's always nice to receive feedback on a blog post, so *thank you* for taking time to comment!
I will try to reply via email unless you are a 'no reply blogger' which means you'll have to check for my reply in the comments. Of course, life is a rather hazardous activity, isn't it? So if I don't respond to your comment that's the reason why - life simply stepped in...
