Revamping the verandah a bit...

Today was incredibly productive!
We have a stationwagon and by lunchtime it was packed to overflowing with *stuff* to drop off at the local charity shop. I went through all our cupboards and plastic tubs with the plan that if it hasn't been used in 12 months it will more than likely not be used at all - so let's give it to someone who will use it. I even gave away some of my earlier quilts...I didn't tell Blossom though. She'd have my hide! Honestly, though, we have enough lovely quilts, and those earlier ones were never used so they will be far better off with someone who'll give them a new purpose.

As promised I'm showing you the beginnings of our little verandah makeover.

BEFORE

and AFTER!

Remember, it's a very old and unloved house so this will be a labour of love over time. We plan to live here two years, so we'll try and get a veggie patch happening as well, and maybe do some internal painting.

I can't show you the new shelving in the sewing room yet as I was busy all day elsewhere and haven't finished sorting out where things are going yet. Maybe tomorrow. :-)
Speaking of tomorrow - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! \o/

Hugs
Jenny

  2. Something about the New Year and cleaning that just go together. The Japanese celebrate New Year and while living there I noticed that in the New Year they opened the windows and air everything out and lots of cleaning going on. Happy New Year. I have a friend who has a new year goal...if it isn't useful or beautiful find a new home for it.

  8. Your verandah looks greater now, so there you are sitting there enjoying the first day of 2010 in the sun while I'm still using up the last hours of 2009 with heavy rain and cold!

Another best thing about a new year ahead is that I'll be having another 12 months to keep enjoying your blog.

Biquiños to you and your family

  17. You're so brave to give away those early quilts! I'm certain they will find a home where they are well loved and used.

  18. I to go thru my cupboards on a regular basis ( at least every six months) and give to charity the un wanted items, but I have never given my old quilts as the adult children when they return home go and look for their favourite quilts to sleep under. I have tried making new ones but they seem to like the softness and smells of the older ones and the memories.
Happy New year Jenny and family

It's always nice to receive feedback on a blog post, so *thank you* for taking time to comment!
I will try to reply via email unless you are a 'no reply blogger' which means you'll have to check for my reply in the comments. Of course, life is a rather hazardous activity, isn't it? So if I don't respond to your comment that's the reason why - life simply stepped in...
