The Lord is good.
And by His grace I've designed and stitched a new block for you, celebrating Easter Sunday.
"He is Risen!"
If you remember, last year I decided that in 2014 I would be working through my fabric stash, and these French General fabrics have been sitting around, rarely cut into, for almost four years. I love the softness of the aqua and washed red with a hint of brown (using only three colours again)...
As I was piecing my completed block, I thought you might like to see an alternative to the traditional hanging sleeve I normally add to a wall hanging. It's very easy and if you don't have a small quilt hanger you can just pop in a pencil or a small piece of dowel to hang it.
You'll need a couple of 3.5 inch squares of fabric. Use the same fabric as you're using for the backing of your quilt...
Fold the squares in half diagonally and press...
Pin them to opposite top corners of your backing fabric...
Machine stitch them to the backing fabric along the raw edges with a scant 1/8th inch seam...
At this point I did some hand quilting to the front of my wall hanging - just the sections that the two corner triangles would cover, as once I attach the front to the backing I won't be able to stitch through them...
Lay the backing fabric face down onto the front of your wall hanging, aligning the triangle corners with the top of the wall hanging...
Sew the front and back together around all four sides with a 1/4" seam, but leave a 4" opening along one side for turning out.
Turn the wall hanging right side out, and ladder stitch the opening closed.
Press the wall hanging and pop the little hanger under the corner triangles to display!
Alternatively you can slip a pencil in it as being straight and solid it will sit easily on a picture nail on your wall.
I finished my design by hand quilting in the red border, then around the appliqued sections and below the Scripture reference...
This free design is available now as an instant pdf download HERE in my shop until December 31st, 2014.
In February I shared "The Sparrow"...
Have you stitched it yet?
Maylin Hu has made the block into a lovely cushion, and just look at that beautiful quilting!
Margaret also stitched "The Sparrow" and framed it for her sewing room.
The verse that inspired this design and hymn is very special to Margaret's husband, and that makes her pretty version even more sentimental...
If you've stitched one of my designs and would like to share a photo with my blog readers please visit THIS page and email it to me.
Tomorrow we're going to talk about colour again, the kind we find in food, too!
hugs,
Jenny, Thank you for He is Risen.

I love the Easter pattern. Thank you! And thank you for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteLovely as usual Jenny.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the corner hanging trick. I like that one.
The 'reader's' works that you have shared are beautiful interpretations of your design too. What a lovely way to start my Tuesday.
Jenny, THANK YOU so kindly for the free "HE IS RISEN" hand stitchery. It is so inspiring & will make great Easter gifts.

What a beautiful stitchery Jenny :-) Thank You SO Very Much for sharing it with us all. I am keen to give this a go & also the "tip" for the back of the mini quilt sounds great. Thank You & blessings & hugs, Julie x0x
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!!! ... He is Risen Indeed!!! ... Hugs xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this beautiful stitchery Jenny. I'm not very good at hand stitching but will give it a try. If I do a fair job, maybe I'll try to stitch out my verse for the year: Psalm 19:14. WORDS is my word-of-the-year, and there are a LOT of Bible verses about what we say. I'm thinking you could do another BOM on that theme. (As if you didn't have enough to do!) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again Jenny, very, very much!
Beautiful pattern. Thanks Jenny.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Jenny. Thank you for the Beautiful Easter design

Jodi

ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely beautiful - thank you so much for sharing these
ReplyDeletePrecioso, gracias por compartirlo...un abrazo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful for Easter! That's the most wonderful message there is. I love seeing what other people do with your designs, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your talent with us. It is so hard to find Christian patterns anymore. God Bless You!! Have a blessed Easter.
ReplyDeleteJenny I love your Easter design! I stitched the Sparrow design in February for my Mother's Birthday. But I was working on it until the last minute, so I didn't get a picture. ;^) I will try to take one next time I go over there!
ReplyDeleteNeed a little more help with the prismacolor pencils. I did the setting as they stated - however, when I embroidered - my fingers turned colors and it smeared on the fabric. I used a muslin, it was unwashed.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas? Thank you. VAB
I haven't had any smearing...it could be the muslin?? I another thought, are you using a hoop? I don't, but I'd imagine pulling in and out of a hoop (and that bit of stretching) may unstabilise the colours? Can you email the lady at the link I shared? She has had much more experience than me. X
DeleteLove the Easter design. I did print out the bird but haven't had tome to work on it. I will be printing this one too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteO, what a lovely pattern. I printed it, search some nice fabrics and yarn. This afternoon I am sitting and stitching in the first sunshine here in Holland. I will make this pattern for one of my best friends on which I always can count. I am sure she like it.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful Jenny.Need to find some lovely fabric to make it.
ReplyDeleteThank you
