One rather old and worn vintage doily was my inspiration for this month's stitchery. It's a simple design you can sew quickly because we all need a few of those in our pattern stash.
Perhaps you have some special fabric or an old linen to use? The edge of a pillow case would be nice too.
I love the feeling of coming home after a long day out, a trip away or a hospital stay, don't you?
Home is where I relax, shake off the outside world, and potter around the house in my cotton pajama pants and a sloppy over sized tee-shirt any time I want. It's where my family know they can come and sit down and be looked after, a safe haven, a sanctuary. Home is so many things to me.
There are times when I've been house-bound too long and I yearn to escape to fresh air and nature, but once I've had my fill of that my heart simply calls 'home' and the closer we get to our town, our suburb, and then our house, the more excited I become. Home welcomes me.
The doily I've used for this embroidery has some fraying but I think it adds to the character.
The chain stitch inside the edge accentuates the fraying but as I said, it's the charm of age which made this project special...
The frame I used was not quite as wide as the doily and I almost went shopping for a larger one, but then I liked the way the tatting just fell over the edge of the frame's window so decided to 'go with the flow' instead.
An aperture sized piece of Pellon was fused behind the fabric backed doily after the embroidery was completed, and that's when I added the pink chain stitched border, pearl seed beads and buttons.
Your pattern sheet has this design in two sizes so you can stitch to suit your own needs. My version is the smaller one.
I wonder how you'll stitch "home"?
It's the May Day public holiday today and Mr E has a lot of school work to plan for his students so we're not heading off-road as we'd normally do in the Jeep on a free day, so I think an afternoon of baking may be in order because he likes nothing better than a sweet treat with his cuppa about 3pm.
Home always smells better when there's something lovely cooking in the oven, don't you think?

Oh Jenny! This is the sweetest design ever! A brilliant idea using the doily and I love how you have framed it. Not sure what I will stitch this on yet or how I will use it but I am sure I will find something soon. Must dig out those doilies from the linen cupboard. They are in 2 doily keepers that my grandmothers made. Thanks so much for another beautiful design.

Thank you. I wish I had not so quickly sent all my old doilies off to the auction house when we downsized to our small (shoebox) apartment over 12 years ago. Nevermind. I am sure I will find one somewhere I just need to stop reading the blogs that I love (and may I add that yours is my EVERY DAY ADDICTION AND MY MOST LOVED BLOG) and go clean out my cupboards and find some goodies (hopefully).
