Saunders Beach...

Obviously with my leg in recovery mode I can't go trekking mountain trails with my man, but bless his precious heart, early this morning he packed our cameras and took me about 30 minutes north of home to Saunders Beach where I could pretty much 'sit' or 'stand' and still take some beautiful pics.
We drove through the tiny township and parked right at the beach...

The sun scattered a million twinkling stars upon the water...

...as we gazed up and down the beach for signs of life...

...finding only a fisherman quietly enjoying his solitude.

The coconut palms were laden with fruit...

....many scattered across the ground, blown down by the winter wind gusts.
Does it seem strange (if you're not from the tropics) to realise this is almost mid-winter here?

I let my imagination roam and wondered what it would be like to live here...

Balmy evenings by the beach, cool drink in hand, and waves lapping at the shore...sounds good doesn't it?
But perhaps I should share the other side of the story?

The only time it is safe, mostly safe, to swim in tropical waters here is during winter. Once spring arrives the water warms up and those deadly jellyfish and irukandji are everywhere. Oh, and there is always a chance of crocodiles...mostly after a cyclone.
So up here we swim in winter, and avoid it the rest of the year.

It was lovely to have some time out today. I brought home a little memento too; a baby coconut fallen prematurely from the tree...

After a realxed lunch of cheese, fruit, salami and juice Mr E and I headed off to put our feet up, look over our photos, and write blog posts.
If you need a little encouragement you can drop over to ren0vator and read his post here. It's marvellous...like him. x

have a lovely Saturday,
hugs

I've been a long time follower of your blog and really enjoy reading everything you write. Your photos are lovely. I'm from the Caribbean but I'm a long way from home at the moment. This post reminds me of home so it prompted me to write this little thank you.

I pray for a swift recovery for you.

The beautiful beaches of Australia! Loved the beaches on the Indian Ocean outside of Perth! I envy you your lovely winters :) I'll have to send you a picture of a winter day here! For all its beauty, Australia is not for the faint of heart - there are so many things there that can seriously hurt/kill you - learned about those our first full day in Perth! Thank you for sharing pictures of your beautiful day out with us - I'm just glad you were able to get out and enjoy the lovely day!!!

Was beginning to wonder whether your next home will be by the beach Jenny, it was a surprise to me when we were informed by our Cairns friends that swimming is not a good idea at all those beautiful tropical beaches but what a beautiful beach you and Mr E visited and so close to home, now that is a good feel spot, can imagine sitting on a bench stitching away but then being constantly distracted looking at the beautiful scenery and patterns on the water, beautiful photos Jenny, and such a lift and great start to your weekend. Both yourself and Mr E great writers and photographers. Take care,
Judithann :-)

Wow, the beach is so empty! There are few beaches I've visited here, even in winter, which were pretty and empty at the same time. I thought how lovely it would be to live in one of those buildings I could see in one picture - but I'll bet it isn't so lovely when the beach is crowded, though maybe they don't get crowded with the population you have. Are there hurricanes or typhoons or tsunamis or whatever to worry about? Crocodiles and stingy poisonous things I can deal with, but not those storms. =) Another lovely set of pictures, and another thought of how wonderful a man you married.

Oh what a lovely view. I don't need to swim in just listening and watching the water is good enough for me.
