The Final Block of Wonky Houses!

Have you enjoyed the last month of Wonky Houses blocks each Friday? 

Today I'm sharing the 4th (and final) block a whole day early because it's the 4th of July and I want to bless and celebrate with my friends across the Pond in the USA.

Block 4 was my favourite when I drew them up 'cause I have a bit of a crush on tree houses, plus that cute little bunny at the door is so darn cute!

The pattern for block 4 includes the full instructions for finishing all 4 blocks into a wall hanging...

Today I have been very busy finishing up two designs for Handmade Magazine's 'Country Christmas' issue. 

If you've been following me for a while you'll know that I don't 'do country' very much at all. The closest I get to it is redwork - but, I do enjoy a challenge.

This issue comes out in Australia at the beginning of October, but I will probably share them later in the year for my overseas readers who cannot access that magazine.

This is "Bless Each Heart"; a stitchery that was simply bordered and framed in a hoop. Hoops are wonderful for framing things!

And this is "A Bagful of Joy", which is great for slipping over your shoulder when you're out and about Christmas shopping. The angled front is actually a pocket. 

 As I was finishing my photo shoot, a little visitor hopped on the bag...

In a future issue of Elefantz HOME e-zine I'll be making a similar bag design, but with more stitchery involved - plus pretty shabby chic colours. I think it will be even sweeter in pink!

Kits and Linen, and a Wonky House of course!

It's Friday again and time to share Block 3 of Wonky Houses.

I'm having fun today with another new design for my Sweet Dreams issue of Elefantz HOME e-zine...

If you have little ones in your life, you'll want to make this.

I'm only half finished with it though. There's another side to make - because, this design is reversible!

Are you stitching Wonky Houses?

Last week I shared about my Pop and his 'wonky' word for all things slightly abnormal, as well as Block 1 of Wonky Houses.

Today I have Block 2 to share with you!

Four years on, and I still love these designs.

Something I've had on my mind to do for quite a while is make a fresh start with my desire to lose weight, get fit, and live the healthiest life I am able.

Being a designer is a rather sedentary life. I sit a couple of hours every day to stitch my designs; I sit for about 3 or 4 hours every day at the computer just doing the 'business' side of Elefantz; I sit to read, to plan, to eat, to drive, to watch some telly with my husband after dinner...I'm on my bottom a lot!

And it shows on my scales.

But in my heart, I LOVE healthy foods, and I love to be outdoors.

So I've jumped in and made a commitment to myself.

My Pop and his wonky world; a free block...

In early 2009 I sketched a cute little house and proceeded to stitch it simply. 

I called it my 'wonky' house because it reminded me of my Pop, the step-grandfather who along with my Nana, raised me as his own child. He was as blood kin to me, loving me with a pure and fierce protectiveness.

Pop passed away in early 1985, unable to push on any longer after Nana's passing a couple of years earlier,  and I still miss his gentle and assuring presence in my life - especially when something triggers a memory of him.

Recently a number of emails have come through requesting that old Wonky Houses pattern again, and so I have been taken back in my mind to this dear man and his declaration that anything a bit 'out of kelter' was quite simply, a "wonky". 

My Wonky House design from back in 2009 was directly inspired by this wonderful man, and grew to be four different 'wonky' houses that I displayed in a simple pieced wall hanging.

As an answer to those email requests, and in tribute once again to my Pop, I'm going to share a block a week for the next few Fridays. Perhaps if you never made this 'way back when', you might like to stitch it now?

It's Friday and I am home alone, which is nice after such a busy week. I have a floor to mop, parcels to post, washing to do, and some general household catch-up chores before I sit down to stitch more of Block 3 from my Shabby Roses 'Beauty' BOM....
