A surprise, a BOM finished (sort of), and a book...

My right hand and wrist have taken a beating with all the hand-sewing I've done in the last two weeks, so I'm going to take a bit of time out to do some machine-piecing for a little while, but before I do that I'll push myself to finish a surprise gift for a friend.
Here's a little sneak peek of it.

Now that the last block from Lynette's "Noah's Ark" BOM is finished I can finally decide what I'm going to do with it - a book? a child's lap quilt? a wallhanging?? Dunno, but at least it will all be machine stitched from this point.

And in keeping with my living-by-the-budget direction this year I ordered the book below through inter-library loan, whereas last year I would have bought it before checking if I really wanted to own it first!

While I'm on my sabbatical from hand-stitching I'll have time to work on some new designs, and then I'll share one with you as a free download...but for now, the kids have gone down to the beach and hubby is due home momentarily, so I'm off to make a cuppa and see what all the fuss is about the book (Blossom has already done enough oohing and aaahing while flicking the pages to picque my interest more!!)

Happy sewing!
Jenny

I was like you Jenny and checked the book out first, but sorry to say, I definitely had to buy it!! So out and about today I ordered it from Borders and paid for it all up so when it arrives I will have nothing to worry about-- and they were heaps cheaper than elsewhere.

Deb, I'm half-way through and I'm sold! I love it!
I have found www.bookdepository.co.uk as the cheapest price to buy from - I can't buy from Borders online here.
It's going to cost me $18 AUD post-free...does that sound good?

You know, I love everything you create here. I'm going to start working on something embroidered (now that I've literally super glued my cracked finger tips shut - yes, really!!) tomorrow. I'm doing the iron-on transfer tonight and going to get started. I'm using the KLUTZ book to learn from and their sampler. My mum got me two pillow case kits . . . can't touch 'em until I get down some of the more "difficult" stitches. I learned the chain stitch yesterday and was pleased with myself.

See? You inspired me to get going.

Sarah, I'm so glad to have inspired you! That's how I started stitching - I saw what others were doing and decided I could do that too. This has been the first 'hobby' I've ever started that I have never tired of. To be honest, being able to sew has saved my sanity more times than I can count...a true gift from God!
