Daisy Days *saturdaisy* is ready - plus a tutorial for a Bears Paw block!

It's THAT day of the month!
The next block in our Daisy Days BOM is ready!

This month all Daisy-Days stitchers will be making their *saturdaisy* blocks, and I think this has got to be the most popular block in the quilt because it's the one I am asked about more than any other!

There was a time in my life when a Saturday morning at the book shop was my favourite of all pastimes!
My penchant was for old bookshops, with shelves from floor to ceiling filled with second hand vintage copies of all the classics. leather bound, gold embossed spines...oh, my heart would beat so fast!
I think you can see where my inspiration for designing this particular block came from.

Also in the pattern this month you'll need to piece four "Bears Paw" blocks. These blocks make up the four corners of the finished quilt. I made two sets of identical colours...

...and large print fabrics from the "Sew Cherry" range used throughout all the piecing.

But I thought you might like to see how a Bears Paw block is made even if you're not making the Daisy Days quilt, so below you can follow along to make your very own Bears Paw block!

To make the tutorial clear, I am using fabrics much easier to identify with each step of the process. Actually, I love the tutorial colours for the block, so this new Bears Paw block will be used for something special! I may even make more of them...mmm.

Let's start with your fabric requirements for ONE 6 1/2" Bears Paw block (will be 6" when pieced in the quilt)...

Trace a pencil line from one corner diagonally across to the other on the back of your two fabric B, 2 7/8" squares, and lay them down on top of the two Fabric C squares of the same size...

Machine sew the squares together by sewing a 1/4" seam down both sides of the drawn line.
Use your rotary cutter to separate the squares into triangles by cutting along your traced line...

Press the blocks open to give you four half-square triangles.

Lay all the squares out to look like this...

Sew the three squares across the top together with a 1/4" seam, and the two side squares as well to give you the top and side borders for your Fabric A, 4 1/2" square...

Sew the side border to the Fabric A square, and then the top border across the top of the block.
Your "Bears Paw" block is complete!

Perfect - just what I need, a block to create the next quilt. I have a stash of old shirts that I want to create into a memory quilt so as I've almost finished my charm quilt I now know what I'm doing next. Your tutorials are so easy to follow - thank you!
