Framed...

Anything that creates a wonderful memory of my Nana is a joy.
This new stitchery was designed in honour of her and yesterday I dug through my many drawers of rescued op-shop frames for one that would resepectfuly house the "Nana's Jug in Patchwork" block for display in our home.
A square blue frame waved it's invisible arms until I took notice, and when all is said and one, I think it's perfect!

I'm seriously in love with the Lecien fabrics used in the applique bricks and patchwork borders too.
"Retro 30's Child Smile" should be in fabric stores at the end of May...

This afternoon I'll be using more of the same fabrics to finish another new design as a table runner.
Once it's pieced and quilted I can add little seed beads to the centre of the flowers...
(patterns will be here inside the May Stitchery Club or available as single purchase downloads on May 18th from my shop)

I think you'll see more Nana inspired projects from me in the future.
They simply make me smile.

Just out of curiosity, what things from the past stir warm memories inside your heart?

hugs

That's so sweet! Just today I saw some fuchsia plants in hanging baskets, and was reminded of my grandmother. She used to have pots of them hanging all around the side of her house. :0)

Your stitchery in memory of your Nana is just soo gorgeous Jenny. I too, am in love with those fabrics. My dear departed Dad was a painter & paperhanger all his working life ... whenever I smell the smell of paint or turps now ... it takes me right back to Dad & how I used to stand & chatter to him for ages, while he was washing his brushes etc out in his old paint shed. I was probably high as a kite thinking back !!!!

Very lovely in this little blue frame. While eating some watermelon recently I was reminded of my childhood liking to eat "Watermelon Rind Cupcakes" my mother used to bake. She would cure the rind some how. Happy Mother's Day Dear...

Your work is so pretty. I did not know my Gram very well. She passes when I was 11 and I only saw her once a year. So memories are very scarce. Happy Mother's Day.

Wonderful frame - makes the stitchery look perfect, totally perfect! Both my parents were smokers so one funny memory for me is if I am around someone who lights up a cigarette I am right back there in the lounge - weird. The other thing is knitting - my Mum was so good at it and she couldn't believe I couldn't really get it. Ha!

Oh spending summers with my Gram, in Nebraska, USA a very small town where everyone knew everyone.

We were pen-pals the rest of the year when I was back in Michigan, USA.

I am blessed to have many small items belonging to both sets of my grandparents (and even some belonging to great grandparents) displayed throughout my house. One of my favorites is a heavy green glass ashtray that I use as a thread catcher next to my sewing machine. I feel a bit guilty for having such fond memories of something associated with cigarette smoking, but it is a strong connection to my childhood.

I was thinking about my grandmas yesterday. Loved them both. Sweet memories :) Neither of them sewed but I just liked being in their gentle presence. Hope my grandchildren feel the same way about me. Looking forward to the May stitcheries in my mailbox. :) Thank you.... Now I just need to figure out why my printer is not printing. :(

Nana-inspired is great for me! I love that frame around the stitchery. I need a better place to find frames. I have found two or three I liked, but not many. Enjoy your stitching time and reflecting on Nana.

Beautiful. I love your your love of your Nana pours fourth into these beautiful creations....I know she is looking down on your and thinking how proud she is of you. I love to think of the memories of when I was little growing up and having big family dinners at my Mamie's house with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins their....What fun it was. And how I always snuck into her sewing room and just sat their looking at all the quilts on the shelves and touching all her fabrics and things.

What a gorgeous picture Jenny. Such pretty fabrics but you are able to put the whole thing together beautifully.

Anything to do with sewing & knitting reminds me of Nanna & my Mam. They were great sewers. They both taught me to sew in the days before the telly. Used to spend a lot of time with my Nanna & we sewed & knitted together for hours at night. A great gift they passed on to me.

I've passed it on to one of my granddaughters who lives near, I spend quite a lot of time with her. She loves to make anything & she has more of an artist's eye like you Jenny.
