Gentle Domesticity BOM - block 9...

I guess most of us women would like to wear beautiful clothes, have our hair 'just so', and leave behind a lingering sweet fragrance as we walk by. Most of us have a desire to improve how we look and feel.

Your idea of looking good is probably very different from mine, but I have yet to meet a woman who doesn't in some way wish she could change a physical aspect about herself.

Confession, I have a lot of doubts about my appearance, esepcially as my weight is increasing and my 'fittable' wardrobe selection has dwindled to three comfortable outfits...but that can change with time.

Something that doesn't take time to change our appearance, something free and instantaneous, something that lights up the atmosphere and hearts of others around us, is a SMILE.

When my children were growing up I taught them to smile as they walked passed people in the street, to smile at the checkout girl as she handed them our groceries, and to smile at each new day because it's a fresh unwrapped gift from God.

Today, look in the mirror and smile at *you*.

You're beautiful, beyond what the world calls beauty. You're beautiful inside and out, just as you are.
Smile, lovely gal. Brighten your heart, and share it with others.

Little Cully May is 4 weeks old now, and she smiles every day.
I guess you know she lights up my world?

When she smiles, I smile.
When she smiles, Blossom smiles.

When *you* smile, others smile.

I'm smiling at you right now. Are you smiling back?

Muito lindas as tuas palavras. No mundo de hoje todas as coisas nos levam para as aparencias mas graças que temos um Pai que olha nosso coração.
Beijos e bom fim de semana

I sure am Jenny, thank you, a beautiful smiley blog post finished off with more big smiles with that beautiful pic of Cully, just gorgeous, don't they grow and respond so fast, Cully would be very happy and smiley looking at herself in the mirror, very pleased with herself as she should be. A gorgeous outfit she is wearing too, looks perfect for the tropics. I agree with you with smiling when out and about etc such a simple thing to do and is twofold in brightening up a day especially to the elderly. Have a wonderful smiley weekend, Judithann:-)x

Thank you for this free pattern. Love the expression on your little granddaughter - priceless! Yes, I'm smiling back. Thank you for the reminder. You are right about the smiles - we were always told that statistics showed - 80% of clientele stayed at their banks due to the happy atmosphere more than for any other reason. I'm sure this is true for any stores too. When you are greeted with a smile - you will want to go back because you instantly feel welcomed :)!!

Having babies in your life is such a blessing. There are days I wish my I could go to the hair dressers and have my hair done each week but my expenses go to my sewing which is what I prefer.

Hi Jenny

I really love this block. I especially love the meaning behind the block. I agree we would all love to change things about ourselves however you are so right-a smile is a beautiful gift we can give ourselves and others because in God's eyes we are all beautiful!
Your precious granddaughter Cully is gorgeous-how could anyone not smile at such a precious little person! I hope that Blossom is enjoying every moment of being Cully's mother.

Blessings

There is no way anyone can look at that beautiful pattern and not smile. However is there should be one single soul that could, then they were won by beautiful Cully's infectious joy.
She surely looks older than 4 wks. Is Blossom still doing well?

Good Morning Jenny! I am smiling at you! Your hand project is so delightful and uplifting! Such a wonderful message. Thank you for sharing it. I taught my daughter the same as you did your girls. We never know what someone else is going through and one smile can totally make a huge difference! Your Grandbaby is so beautiful! I am so happy and delighted for all of you! Thank you for sharing. I may not be commenting much until after my Daughters wedding in October. I have so many things going on and more and more keep getting added. LOL. What is a mother to do? Just keep nodding and going on! I hope that you have a fantastic creative day!

She is gorgeous, I love baby smiles! I agree with you about smiles, I always smile at everyone. I remember sometime ago reading about someone who was very depressed and having a really bad day and someone smiled at them and made them feel better and they remembered that little thing. A smile costs nothing but may make a world of difference. As always a gorgeous block, thank you and sending you big virtual smile for all the joy your designs bring to us.
Love Alison xx

Actually I DID find myself smiling. You can't look at that sweet wee girl & not smile!
Love you new design, especially the roses at the bottom of the dress & the bird of course. My home seems to have lots of "Jenny birds" around. Never change them!

Absolutely smiling back. What I learned, after a lifetime of thinking I was on the plain side, was when I saw pictures from my mid-20s, I wasn't plain at all! I wish I hadn't spent so much time worrying about the outside, but worked even more on the inside. It has all come out okay, but I spent a lot of time wondering why in the world Paul, whom I thought the handsomest man ever, would have picked ME. LOL Now, I wouldn't mind losing a few pounds, but otherwise, wrinkles and all, I'm happy with the way I look and don't worry about things much at all. Cully May is adorable! I can't believe it's been 4 weeks already. Where did the time go? I'm so glad you are able to be close for both Blossom and Cully May, and for you, too. You deserve this beautiful time with both of them.

Great pic of Cully May. She certainly makes me smile. Fortunately, I am a smiley person and most of the time people respond with a return smile. Smiling and laughing release happy hormones and can actually make us feel better as well as making other people feel better. As for clothes, I never really feel comfortable in a dress and much prefer pants. I hate clothes shopping as I can never find anything I like or find things to fit properly as I am height challenged and have also put on a bit of weight . I don't really like looking the same as everyone else either. I wear perfume every day, even when I stay home. It is a routine just like showering and cleaning my teeth. I hope Blossom is smiling and feeling heaps better.

Why yes I am smiling back, lol - oh that pic of Cully May is the most adorable thing EVER!! Love this block Jenny, I too tend to smile a lot because I've been told I look mean if I don't smile, lol....of course, sometimes that comes in handy. :)

Cully May is really adorable! You must be in the clouds in love with her. I'm having a new granddaughter in December, and I can't wait. I have to say that your idea of a smile is spot on. When my granddaughter (the 8-year-old) is allowed to wear a little lip gloss, she loves it and I can tell she feels pretty. But I have made point of "forcing on her" that a smile is actually the best make-up. Always love your blog, Jenny.

oh I'm definitely smiling. Your design made me smile then that adorable baby girl made me smile. I totally agree about greeting or just passing people with a smile. It makes you feel better and who knows your smile may have been just what they needed to know there are still nice people out there.
