Free button card gift project...

You probably already know I love to think of simple inexpensive gifts to pop inside a card and post to friends. I also like to share those ideas with you!

I've been collecting buttons for over a decade and sorely lament not being able to easily visit the little church op-shop in the small country town we used to lived in because that's where I found the bulk of my pretty button treasures.

There's a nice assortment of vintage ones in my collection but mostly they're just lovely buttons which caught my eye at garage sales, markets, charity stores or in the bargain basket at Spotlight. When you have a penchant for buttons you tend to look for them everywhere.

Anyhow, I thought wouldn't it be nice to design a lovely button card which can be popped in the post and sent to stitching friends anywhere across the globe? There's four cards on the pattern sheet and I suggest printing on 250gsm weight paper which I buy at our local stationary shop, Officeworks. It's like thin cardboard, same thickness as a greeting card.

You could also print it on ordinary white printer paper and then glue to a pretty backing card.

When you print the project sheet make sure you set your printer to 'actual size' or 'do not scale'.
Use the link below to access this free download.

I have an old rotary cutter which is only ever used to cut paper or plastic, and that's how I cut out the four cards from the project sheet.

Use a single strand of strong thread to sew the buttons to the card or use a touch of that sticky stuff which holds the button in place but which can be peeled off later (not sure what it's called...if you do please leave the name in the comments so we can all get some - marvellous stuff, like transparent blu-tack but not).

Pop your button card inside a greeting card or add it to a larger parcel as a bonus gift. I'm sure your friend will love it!

I was thinking too, if you're a card maker (my friends Rosie and Fee make gorgeous cards) perhaps you could glue this to the front of a blank card with other embellishments?

Hopefully this will be a useful project to add to your gift giving now and in the future.

I've had some emails from readers enquiring about Blossom but there's nothing to tell right now. She's in her final week of pregnancy and after a lot of prayer and angst has decided to let the baby come when he's ready, rather than be induced.

To be sure there's much prayer in our family at the moment - for Blossom's labour and birth to be gentle and not be so dangerous and traumatic as the first two, for her little baby boy's hole in the heart to be healed, and for Mr E to get a new job very soon which will allow his health to improve. And as always, my loved ones and I pray for God to heal my own heart....which is definitely much improved these days.
"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. For His mercies endure forever!"
Psalm 107:1

Spilling a secret...

Last thing I'll leave you with today and some surprise news I've been keeping quiet about for a while now, something which will begin in the New Year - The Homemaker's Heart

It's been ten years since I launched my first digital magazine and that ran for two and half years. Since then my heart has often yearned to start over with a new home-focused magazine but the Lord held me back, leading me along different paths these past seven or eight years but I'm so excited to tell you that the time is now 'just right' so very soon you'll be hearing more about it and when it shall be launched.
May it be an encouragement and resource to every homemaker here.

Now I'd best be off to make dinner for hubby as I can hear our tummies rumbling...

Until next time,
loving hugs

PS: Do you like the new blog dress? I love giving it a fresh makeover at the end of each year.

Love the button cards! I wish I had stitching friends to whom I could send them. I will definitely keep Blossom in my thoughts and prayers for everything to go easy for her and the baby. Can't wait to see the new magazine! The new blog looks very nice but I still miss the elephant! Well, it's 2am so I guess I'll try to get a few hours of sleep. I never get much. Norm's snoring keeps me awake and I usually don't sleep until he gets up at about 6am. Then I sleep too late in the morning. Oh, well. Hope you have a good week!

Your blog looks lovely as always, Jenny. I am not sure how you design it like you do and you are very clever. Those button cards would be a lovely gift to friends who sew and quilt I am sure. I have some old buttons in a tin that my Mum used for her buttons when she was alive. Buttons are quite expensive now but always available in the Op Shops of course. I was thinking of Blosson yesterday and wondered how she was faring. I will keep praying for her and the bub.

Hi Jenny! Thanks so much for the lovely button card. I will make good use of it. I have been praying for Blossom and family and will continue to do so. I will add Mr. E to that prayer, as I was not aware he was in search of new employment for health healing. Your blog 'dress' is gorgeous. Do you design your own graphics? I am over the moon excited for your new Homemaker's Heart digital magazine. I shall stalk my email impatiently waiting for more info on the magazine. :) Pam

Thank you so much for another simple but lovely design. I have no one to send them to but I collect pretty buttons and have some Mother of Pearl buttons in my "collections" embroidery box. It holds some cute beeswax pieces that are just too pretty to use, buttons, special pins and the such. Said a prayer for you and your family. Will add them in my prayer book. God Bless

He's not lost his job but the conditions he works in have affected his health dreadfully. We are praying for a new position before the middle of January. x

So glad to get an update. Like the other ladies, I have been praying for Blossom, the baby. Your heart and Mr. E. I will continue to pray. I am not familiar with your original magazine so I am excited to see what you have in store! Many blessings!

Praying for your dear family like all the others. God is faithful so I know all will be well! Blossom will have a safe delivery.
I was born with a hole in my heart. It was a big concern to my parents until it closed.
The button cards are so sweet! Thank you! Sewing the buttons on the card stock is best but I would think double stick tape would hold most buttons on the cards securely.
Love to read your post. You are a friendly voice from the opposite side of the globe.

My prayers continue for you and your family. Please keep us updated On Blossoms prayer needs if they change and as they change as you can. Love the button cards. They really showcase the buttons. We often call them glue dots here. The little sticky spots that you glue things with... Great news on your upcoming digital magazine. That sounds like a very exciting moment in your life right now.

Hello Jenny! Thank you so much for the button cards. I wouldn't know about them if it hadn't been for Annabel Smith! They are so sweet and add a bit of gentility to everyday life.
