Monday #8 music and psalm 91...

Psalm 91 is one of my favourite psalms, a very personal psalm which carried me through the darkest of valleys. The other day my husband shared with me a music clip of the psalm sung in the style of a Gregorian chant, and it was beautiful, simply beautiful.

The four siblings who sing Psalm 90 and 91, have been blessed with God-gifted voices which harmonise perfectly. Here's a little about them....

"The members of the Harpa Dei choir are four siblings both in blood and in spirit. The music they present here is primarily intended to glorify our Heavenly Father, and to collect the richness of the musical expressions that the various peoples created in response to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ into this world. Most of the pieces are traditional liturgical songs presented in the language in which they were written."

I thought today we could all sit quietly and just listen, allowing this small four-piece choir to minister. I'm also praying that the beauty of this piece lifts your spirit, especially if your world is a bit chaotic, sad or wearying right now.

Some seasons are fun and full of life, laughter and activity; in other seasons we may need to hibernate a while and let God hold us in His perfect care until we are fully rested and refreshed. Whatever season you find yourself in at the moment, God is with you, and His Word, which is alive and powerful (Hebrews 4:12), will always speak into your life.

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God; in Him I will trust." Psalm 91:2

Be blessed,

Thank you for sharing this beautiful Gregorian hymn. Woke this morning still a bit worried about everything happening in the news...I left all in His hands last night and asked for guidance. This put the last bit of worry to rest - its ALL in His hands. God bless you, Jennifer! Deb E.

Il salmo 91 è quello che si legge in tutte le nostre preoccupazioni e per mettere tutta la nostra vita ed i nostri cari sotto la protezione del Signore. Bello il canto gregoriano. Benedizioni.

Such beautiful voices, so perfect for this purpose. I have some Gregorian chants I love listening to. I imagine, though I don't know for sure, that the Psalms David wrote were meant to be songs sung in this way. He mentions singing and instrumental play in them sometimes, and this is what I always think about. Thank you for sharing, and thank Mr. E, too. What a treasure to have a husband who shares your spiritual interests. I hope your weather is not giving you migraines, and that fall is coming in gently for you.

Thank you so much for sharing this today; this is my most favorite Psalm. A friend of mine and I prayed it daily when our children were deployed in a forward operating base doing a very dangerous job. It saved them and saved us. It makes me weep when I read it... just as this did while listening.
