An old find, a finished quilt top, and a sneak peek...

Saturday mornings never go according to plan - I should have remembered that when I wrote my 'beat the heat' sewing strategy yesterday.
The new weekend routine has been waking early, downing a quick cuppa, then off to see what bargains can be found at the few garage sales our little town has to offer. This morning I found these very old tin canisters, in need of some love and refurbishment.

They were originally priced at $10 each, but by the time we arrived they had been marked down to $1 each...so I just had to rescue them.
~~~~~
It has been a couple of weeks since Blossom and I went out for morning tea, so after we dropped the boys back home her and I visited a favourite cafe and drank Lady Grey tea in the cool breeze of our shaded outdoor table. We shared a piece of Chili Chocolate Gateau while we chatted, and simply enjoyed being together.
I can never have enough of these special times with her, each one is etched in my heart to be remembered once she has left home to build her own family nest, when she will be planning those same teatime moments with her daughters yet to be born.
Do you have special times with your daughters or sons? What do you do?
~~~~~
Due to our morning out I didn't get to the sewing room until almost midday, but as I need to have this quilt finished in time for Christmas I decided to bear the heat and add the final border. Three hours later it was on, all corners lovely and perfect!

It's a much bigger quilt that I thought - when I laid it on our queen size bed to photograph for you it hung over the sides, so I moved furniture and photographed it on the living room floor instead. Now I have to baste the layers, quilt, and bind. I thought I'd do this tomorrow, buuuuutttt....I think I need a day off. ;-)
~~~~~
Here is the sneak peek I promised of my new BOM.
No more sneak peeks though! You'll have to wait for January 7th for Block 1.
I'm using Robyn Pandolph's 'Somerset Cottage' in blues, but it would be lovely in the pink, green or lemon fabrics too.
Tonight we're playing some board games or perhaps a few games of Pool in the common room of the girl's dorm next door.
I hope your own weekend is a fun one!
Hugs
Jenny
I think there's a special relationship between you and Blossom. It's fantastic reading that you go aout together for shopping or for a tea. It's so beautiful reading tha you share the same interests and passions (stitchery, quilting ...)or simply the joy for being together. I think that nowadays such a kind of relationship is a real blessing. God bless both of you.
Lots of love.
What lovely tins, how do you plan to restore them? And love the quilt too - are those some stitcheries in the corners? And now you've whetted my appetite, how can a Somerset girl resist a range of fabrics called Somerset Cottage, I'll just have to look around for it ready for your new BOM!
The quilt is beautiful Jen. I love hearing about your special mother/daughter times together. I'm looking forward to Boo being a bit older so I can make similar memories with her (although we do have our own "girly" thing going now!).
Hugs,
That quilt just reeks with happiness.It is so happy with color and vibrancy. It really came together fast, and I like the corners, just makes it even happier. I like going to garage sales too and what a find, are you going to repaint them? The teatimes are great, my 2 granddaughters were just here for our annual cookie bake,spritz with lots of sprinkles,they too are growing and becoming young ladies.
Hugs,
Maggey
I think it is wonderful that you have such a special relationship with Blossom. My daugter Jenifer and I have lots of special times together. She is my youngest at 41 years old and still lives at home. We do lots of things together. She is my best friend. I love your tines. I hope you let us see what you do with them.
Oh Jenny those tins are fabulous, you got a great price! Tea sounds lovely with Blossom. My mum and I didn't have a good relationship until I had children of my own - you are very blessed.
The quilt is absolutely beautiful. And that is big! Can't wait to see how you quilt it.
Love the sneak peek. I see beads!!! Enjoy your weekend sweetie.
The birdie quilt is getting cuter and cuter. My special times with my daughter are spent baking and candy making. When we were together at Thanksgiving at her place we made three kinds of truffles. So fun. We have more planned when she is home for Christmas.
Thanks for the peak!!
I love your 'new' canisters! Garage Saling is over here for the season but there is nothing like a GOOD garage sale!! Love the sneak peak....of course I want more...but I can wait. I am so envious when I hear about you and Blossom and your outings...you are right to enjoy them now! My three daughters had to move away after university so we don't get those Saturday outings anymore ...such nice memories. Take care- it sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned!
Can't wait to see how you restore those tins....they remind me so much of my old auntie...she had a set and kept the yummiest of biccies and fruitcake in them!!!
I love time spent with my son too....he's starting to love going shopping with me and ask for me opinions (odd for a 15 year old, but I'm definitely NOT complaining!).
Cant wait to see your BOM....just around the corner!
Sugary hugs :O)
Hello Jenny sweets! :-)
Wow, I've just caught up on a few of your posts and you've been so busy! Blossom's quilt top is looking fantastic! And how gorgeous is that knitting book you purchased?! Wow - the gloves and shawl are incredibly pretty!
Rosie and I enjoy paper crafts at the moment, but I am looking forward to the days when we can enjoy tea and cake at a cafe... but there's plenty of time for that... for now I'm happy to have cars and kitty toys dunking into my coffee while we're out! :-)
Loves ya! Vikki xoxo
