Domestic Reflections - peace...

Life doesn't always deal a harmonious hand - in fact, some days it feels as though anxieties and concerns multiply by the hour. We can no more stop their advance than hold back a tide from rising up the shoreline.

So what's your first instinct on days like that?
Is it forcing yourself to cope and pushing ahead regardless of the agitation and bad mood that swiftly follows, or do you crumble in a heap and break open that bar of chocolate hiding in the bottom drawer?

First instinct should always be run to Jesus and fall at His feet - "Come to Me all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)  - but if you're like me that instinct rarely makes an appearance easily.

I wonder why?
Perhaps because the things of this world are more real to me than the reality of Heaven, and therefore I respond to them without stopping to remember the One who holds my life and this world in His palm, the One who in the blink of an eye can wrap me in His peace and flood my worried and distracted mind with a calm that cannot be shaken.
Am I describing you, too?

Friends, run.
Run swiftly to the arms of Jesus when the world seems overwhelming and the day not long enough.
Run gladly to His rest and allow His gentle hands to catch you as you fall.
Run with confidence to His outstretched arms because they wait to embrace you with a love and hope so true that nothing else can compare.
Run to Him because He will give you peace in every way.

I pray this becomes my first instinct.

Faire confiance, se laisser porter dans ses bras ce n'est pas facile mais cela fait beaucoup de bien quand on y arrive !!

For me, it's because I always think I can handle it myself. I think I'll save my seeking and running for the big things and not bother him with the little ones. =) I'm learning. The Lord is in the details of our lives.

What a timely reminder. I must admit that sometimes I forget to run to Him first and I go off on my own tangent. He always calls me back though and sets me straight. Thank you for the wonderful post.

Just as I began reading your thoughts for today the TV in the background began playing 'You Raise Me Up' by Celtic Woman - so appropriate; was meant to be.

Thank you, Jenny. Your words are so true for me - often I just don't know what to do next in handling the day-to-day difficulties with my boys and often react with anger (unless God had intervened to give me a calm and wisdom that is not my own).

Warm regards and thanks ~ Marina

Jenny, having lost our oldest son Harley five short years ago due to an accident it has been a daily struggle. BUT, I do know that my child is with God and He is looking after him. I try to pray every night to be in Gos arms and I truly feel I am. With my heart broken I know God loves me and some day I will see my child again. Until then He holds onto me and is guiding my son in heaven.
