A pair and pears...

THE PEARS

I'm pretty satisfied with what I achieved in the sewing room yesterday!

After showing you the applique pear blocks in Monday's blog post, I thought you might like to see the full quilt top today...

  The piecing was really simple, but can you see how fussy cutting those pears before applique really brought the quilt to life?

Blossom saw it for the first time this morning and declared it "Wow!", so the look I was going for had an effect on my first viewer. Hopefully I will soon have a morning to machine quilt it.

My friend Fiona Ransley of "Designs by Fee" has just released a four-part BOM featuring ABC framed hexies in a quilt, and it's so sweet!

Now, despite Fiona's repeated attempts to assure me they are quite easy, I have never made a framed hexie...until today. After finishing the piecing of the pears quilt top, I thought it was time to squeeze in one more little project from another designer's creative mind, and Fiona's hexies were my choice.

I won't be making the quilt due to my own time/design/work restraints, but I thought the individual alphabet letters would be perfect for personalised gifts this Christmas.

So my first little hexies are being made for my pair of girls, Kezzie and Blossom (aka Elizabeth)...

They have different styles and favoured colours. Blossom (Elizabeth) recently swooned over these two fabrics in my stash so it wasn't hard choosing fabrics to use in a project for her framed hexie...

 The hexies are small, so I used two strands of thread for the E and the two large flowers, and just a single strand for the bird, smaller flowers and all the stems.

Kezzie loves her reds, and this beautiful piece of folksy red and cream fabric has been patiently waiting to be showcased in a gift for her...

Just as I was finishing her 'K' the grey thread ran out so I dashed out to Spotlight this morning for a new skein. I'll complete this hexie tonight, and frame it in a solid red for placing on the background fabric...

I think the girls will love them because I sure do!

Blossom finishes her most recent 5 week house-sitting assignment tomorrow and will be home with us again, so Bob-the-dog will be the happiest furry fellow on four legs in town!

Quite devoted to each other those two are. Rather lovely.

*K* for my Kezzie...

This week's monogram is K, and in our family, K is for Kezzie!

I stitched it on to my Sampler first...

...and then, it was time to stitch it onto something else - something special for my darling daughter, Kezzie!

Remember her wedding in October last year? 

 

Everything was red, black and white...with lots of spots!

I even made the ties for Kezzie's boys from black and white spot fabric...

As I was planning an extra project idea to share with you for *K*, I remembered I still had some of that spotted tie fabric and thought it would be just right in a gift for my girl!

I used the tie fabric as a journal cover, and stitched the *K* in her favourite colours...

 

I know she likes to take notes from Sunday sermons at church, so this will be perfect!

There are so many ways to use the Monograms I share each week.

Some wedding pics to share with you...

What a wonderful day!!!\o/\o/

We arrived at Kezzie's house about an hour before the wedding. Kezzie and Bloss had so much fun doing hair and make-up before donning their dresses...

I kept eyes on Deegan and Cal...

...and did more than a few dress alterations for the girls!

Finally, all dressed, Mr E drove our girl, myself and our little grandsons to Centennial Park for the ceremony.

It was beautiful. God had blessed the weather, and everyone was SO relaxed. The perfect wedding.

We're all a bit tired now, but it's the tiredness that comes from an over abundance of love and joy.

Family time...

Last night Kezzie, Bert and the boys came for dinner before collecting family and friends from the airport for the big day on Saturday.

I am making some of the desserts for the wedding reception and as I needed some guinea pigs to try out one of my ideas, our dinner last night was the perfect practice!

Blueberry Lemon Shortcake

 

The family shouted a resounding YES to adding this onto the wedding reception menu. \o/

I'm also making a Cherry & Orange Shortcake.

Here's the crew last night, having heaps of fun...

 Bert's beard is coming off after the wedding because he has a very important interview with the recruitment board at the air force (and he'd love your prayers of support - thanks!)...

My lovely friend Vickie from Humpty Doo sent a gift to Kezzie, and she loved it. Sweet wedding bells...she said these will hang from her bed always. Thanks, Vic. :-)

Grandson Calab stayed overnight with us while everyone else went to the airport and on to the caravan park with wedding guests (they had to pick up more guests from the airport today and are now off in the church bus back home to Charters Towers to prepare for Saturday's wedding ceremony). 

It's been a long time since Calab and I have spent time 'just the two of us', so this morning we left Mr E to his work and headed off to the Tumbetin Tearooms and Palmetum. I'll let the photo diary below tell the rest of the story...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Calab was a wonderful guide through the maze of the rainforest tracks and bridges, and spent a lot of time identifying the birdlife from the pamphlet we had with us.

After two hours of walking we decided it was time to head home so he could have lunch with Pop before Kezzie arrived to take him home again.

This was a memory making day. Lovely. Will do it again. :-)
