I went shopping and bought myself a book.
Actually, the store gave me a birthday voucher for $10, plus a 40% off promotional voucher. So I guess they bought me the book, or about 80% of the book...and I only paid 20%. Yippee either way, because it's been on my radar for a while and now it's in my hot little hands and I couldn't be happier with my purchase...

But, Kathy's recent book of 21 quilt designs has stolen my heart big time.
This book won't make it onto the shelf for a while...it's got me all quilt inspired, and quilting isn't my forte, so when a book does that for me it's a keeper-by-the-bed for bedtime dreaming.
Kathy is an American who has been in Australia for over twenty years, a wife and mother to three boys, and owner of the Material Obsession quilt shop down in Sydney. She has published a few brilliant quilting books, including Materials Obsession One and Two which she co-authored with Sarah Fielke. Both are in my top 10 favourite quilt books list and are drooled over regularly.
But, Kathy's recent book of 21 quilt designs has stolen my heart big time.
Taking a long trip through the outback with her husband - no phone or internet allowed - Kathy lay her quilts against the rugged backdrop of small country towns to capture the essence of each one in photographs for the book.
I love this linked chain border, which I intend trying myself very soon...
...and this quilt reminds me of a favourite movie Blossom and I have watched over and over.

It must have been my blessing day because I found another wonderful bargain before I came home from my shopping trip.
I leave for Melbourne in two weeks for Let's Get Stitched where I'm one of the seven guest designers, and I don't think a chilly March Melbourne will be as warm as my high humidity tropical Townsville, so I need to gather some 'wintry' clothes.
This sweet cardigan was reduced to $2, and as soon as I saw it I had an idea for a shabby lace makeover. At just $2 it doesn't matter if my idea fails but I really want to give it a try, so watch this space in the next week or so.
Princess Sophie will be keeping Mr E company while I'm away. The mere notion of being mistress of the house and having him all to herself without my interference fills her thoughts day and night at the moment...
Make the most of it while you can, Princess Sophie, but just remember, I'm coming back, and I'm still the Queen.

Congratulations on paying so little for so much! It is nice when the little treats we find don't break the bank. A $2 cardigan is amazing, and I know it will look spectacular once you have spun your magic. You could likely sell it back to the store for far more than original asking price. :-)
Well done Jenny, you are being blessed with a great birthday week may it continue for the month. Looking forward to seeing your magic touch with your new cardigan, love what you do and your home is gorgeous, well that's a reminder, my own overwhelming craft area and supplies. Your new bargain patchwork book looks very interesting, food for thought for a 40% voucher I have, thank you for that idea. My favourite book at the moment is my collection of craft magazines, I am trying to sort and cull, let go of some of the accumulation, have binders of photo copies from library magazines too that could be culled, decisions of will I won't I and reminding me of projects in my to do list. Its a start. Enjoy (sounds inspiring) your new book. I will have to seek out that movie. Know what your mean with your visit south, it will most likely a sudden change for you, we are off to NZ with our Cairns friends next month so they searching for their winter clothes, rarely needed, it is hard packing outside current season, thinking layers and scarf. Oh, that sweater has loads of potential! My favorite quilting book? Wow, my library is pretty big since I've been quilting for about thirty years...but one book that is just pure inspirational joy is my "Little Brown Bird" by Margaret Docherty. The skill level needed (and the time) prevents me from ever thinking I'll actually try to duplicate this quilt...but the techniques are wonderfully photographed and described...and make my heart flutter with possibility!.

What a great shopping score! You could always leave it as is & wear a lacy cami peeking out if you want a shabby lacy effect. But I suspect you will do something amazing.

Happy Birthday, Jenny! Love your unbirthday and birthday celebrations. There is one birthday thing that I remember from when I was young and at home with my siblings. I don't know where it came from and it still strikes me as really odd. Someone would sneak up behind the birthday person and rub butter on their nose, hence, it was called "having your nose greased". Haven't thought of that in years, and it never failed, it wasn't just your nose got greased, cause you always tried to duck. lol
