My middle daughter is officially one month from her due date today, so I thought it was time I made some bibs and burp cloths to send her just in case she takes after me and delivers earlier than expected.
Of my seven babies only the first went to term, in fact he was 4 weeks over! Back then (1977) they just let me go, but I think those extra weeks kinda did my body in because the next six were all premmies.
Anyhow, back to those bibs and burp cloths!
Amy at Nana Company had a sweet ruffled pattern, but for a newborn I just wanted plain so I omitted the ruffles but used her lovely template. It's tiny too, perfect for a just-met-the-world little girl...
In my stash I found some Tasha Noel fabrics and a few fat quarters of Cinderberry Stitches; both were perfect for these projects...
There's white towelling on the back of the bibs and burp
cloths for easy washing, and I trimmed the bibs with lengths of red and
green gingham bias purchased years ago 'because I liked them'...I knew they'd come in handy one day.
On Monday these will be parceled up and sent all the way south to my girl, along with this cute door hanger I made last year for my magazine. I think it will be perfect on a nursery door, don't you?
Next on my list is to knit booties.
It's been years, but I think I remember how to use yarn and those thin pointy knit sticks.
This pattern looks good - simple, quick, and perfect for pulling over Onesies.
A nice change from stitching with thread, but Mr E may need to replenish the spearmint leaves as I'm a little rusty and could need sustenance. Can you hear him chuckling in the background? I'm so subtle...
hugs

It's lovely!
Oh Jenny, they are the cutest little bibs and those fabrics are perfect. How exciting having a new granddaughter. Hopefully you won't have to wait to long to meet her and all goes well for your daughter. xx

How exciting Jenny, countdown time now, taking you back, many memories, good on you 7 babies and lots of gorgeous grandchildren a bonus. Your daughter will be thrilled. I have edged many bargain hand towels for burp cloths and made a few bibs too but recently my baby craft has been polo fleece reversible pocket type blankets to hold feet in snug and tuck around babies body but still able to use harness and can be used for few years, actually can be made for every age group, have one myself to snuggle up with in front of the tele at night, the other is a square or any size double polo fleece blanket with ribbon taggies, both just recently for Jindabyne baby boy (cold) and just included the ribbon taggies on one end this time, babies love the texture of the different ribbons, this blanket idea came from Tassie many years ago and I have made many but funnily enough ha ha still have quite a supply of polo fleece, maybe unfortunately for the storage of and the babies are becoming rarer in our world and also knitted many 8ply colourful booties too, pattern also shared from Tas. Taking me back in time. I haven't picked up the knitting needles this winter but dabbled in a little crochet for presents. Enjoy your baby craft, special when it is for one of your own and thank you for sharing.
All the best to you and your family, Judithann :-)
absolutely gorgeous...funny isn't it all them years ago a burp cloth was just a towelling nappy thrown over my shoulder ..but now it has an official name :), cheers Vickie
These are so cute. Lovely for you to be a granny again
Ha! I too am in the midst of baby sewing and knitting. However, I have to make things twice since my son and his wife are expecting twins. It's certainly a busy time and thank you for the link to the booties.
Lovely bibs and cloths Jenny. Hope all goes well for your daughter and new grandchild - how many will that be? Thanks for the links. xx
Those bibs are so cute and now I'm adding them to my list of baby things to make. My son and his wife are expecting twins in about 2 weeks, so I'd better finish up! Congrats for a new grandbaby!
How wonderful to have a new baby in the family. Those gorgeous bibs, burp clothes and door hanger are all perfect .
Your baby gifts are so sweet. Your daughter will love them. It is so smart to use toweling on the back of the bibs. I remember when my boyos were babies that I wished my bibs had toweling-so easy to wipe those sweet baby cheeks and not add to all the laundry!
Love these. Lucky daughter and lucky granddaughter! Pointy sticks? Is that what those are for! I thought they were a little short for shish kabob!
Jenny the bibs and burp cloths are so cute! I love the fabrics too!
Oh those are so cute. Love the fabrics. The door sign looks great too. Prayers that the little one arrives safely.
What beautiful and useful baby gifts. I know she will love these and love all the compliments that will be given over such gorgeous items on a precious little one. Your fabrics choices are amazeing for these bibs.
These are so sweet, I love Natalie's fabrics, just perfect for babies. I made bibs for my daughter's baby (another boy) with ties but she asked me to make more with velcro. It's so hard to tie a bib on a wriggly baby, enjoy your little girl
These are absolutely lovely! It's nice to hear that you have a new member in your family. These bibs and burp cloths you make are very cute. Perfect choice of fabric.
