A 620 kilometre round trip, and worth the seven hours of driving!
Mr E drove the car, and I brought some stitchery to do along the way, but you know what? As soon as we got on the road I lost all desire for it.
This weekend was about us clearing our heads, sorting out where we are in life, and planning where to from here...so no work (for either of us) snuck in to our weekend.
We arrived in Cairns at lunchtime Saturday, and spent the afternoon catching up with our hosts, followed by a BBQ dinner on the patio.
Afterwards we headed down to the Marina strip for coffees and a casual evening stroll down the boardwalk.
Mr E, Helene & Anthony...
The next morning we met other friends for breakfast at this really cute little cafe, "Candy".
The Candy Cafe was designed for adults who still enjoy childhood. The walls are painted with fairy story murals, and each table section is divided with fake topiary hedges! Chandeliers hung everywhere, and even the toilets had fairy tale murals on the doors, as well as little red seats to sit on while you wait your turn, and "Aesop" aromatherapy hand wash and hand balm. I was in love.
Even the menu is cute!
On the table are doilies, and little toy soldiers for the 'boys' to play with!
(and they DID all play with them!)
Chai Tea came in a children's tea pot...
...and all the menu items and drinks were named after nursery stories, old school childhood meals, or things we'd remember from when we were kids.
My vegetable juice was called "The Little Engine That Could"...
...and my breakfast was "Marie Anotinette" - an unbelievably wonderful Caramelised French Toast with Pink Pears, Mascarpone, and Pistachios (only $12!)
Our friend Liz ordered "Benny & The Beanstalk" - aka Eggs Benedict!
Mr E had "Mincing About" - old school savoury mince on toast with a poached egg.
Next time we go to Cairns we're going back because I want to have "The Three Bears" for breakfast - porridge with fruits, honey, cream and walnuts!
Other cute menu items were:
'Duck, duck, goose', 'Magic beans', 'Hey Diddle Diddle', and 'Chicken Little'.
If you want to see the full menu you can visit their Facebook Page HERE.
The team who designed this cute little cafe are Myriad Design. I think they are amazing!

After breakfast we walked through the biggest fruit and vegetable market I've seen in a decade, "Rusty's Market"...
...then down to the Marina for the boys to check out the $10 Million boats they'd like to own!
Coffees at the Salt House....
...and another long stroll back to town under a canopy of lush tropical green!
After our huge breakfast we decided to skip lunch, and a bit later we bade farewell to our lovely hosts, packed our stuff back in the car, and headed home.
We'll be back. For sure.
How was your weekend?
Hugs

What an adorable cafe. I have that very same red teapot! Although I did manage to sew I helped Mr. Creations wrestled the new bathtub in place...remove it as it didn't sit level...the put it back. Fun times.
Gosh that food sounds mazing. Almost worth a trip to Cairns - in Winter!
Not as much fun as yours, but it was sunny and then the world seems to be so much nicer! We took some time for ourselfs and read our favorit books!
