"Seasons in Redwork" block 1....

In the September 6th issue of my Elefantz Home e-zine, I'm starting a new four-month Block of the Month.
But this BOM will be slightly different because each block will be a mini-quilt!
I won't reveal the finished mini quilt for the first month until next week, but I will give you a teaser today with some photos of the stitchery sections, and some of the fabrics I'm using...

"Seasons in Redwork"
~ block 1 'spring calling' ~

Block 1 begins in Spring, as this is the season to greet all Australians and those elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere in September...

( In the October issue block 2 will be an autumn block in a mini quilt for my friends in the Northern Hemisphere)

There is something rather lovely about redwork, and I think it's obvious that I adore drawing birds to stitch, especially adding all the little extras to their raiment...

And of course the joy of these seasonal mini-quilts is being able to swap them around as you welcome a new season in your very special corner of the world!

These fabrics stood out as being 'just right' for the piecing around the blocks...

I'm loving this.

hugs
Jenny

Hallo Jenny,
Soory for the long time of no reactions, but we had to move our Mam to a house for the elderly, next week she will become 95 years old and it did not go very well. She needs time to get settled and we hope she we like it there.
So now I have some time to have a look to your beautiful creations!
Hugs
Lida

What is the stitch that looks like a continuous line without breaks called? And is the "outline" inside of the bird with breaks called a running stitch? Just curious. I'd like to learn how to embroider next! You create amazing works!

Hi Karrie,
You were correct about the running stitch. The other stitch is 'backstitch'.
I hope you do begin to embroider...it's such a peaceful endeavour.
