Earlier this month Lecien Fabrics sent me a few goodies to play with and included in the package was their new 'Retro 30's Child Smile' fabrics (you can see them all here) - two 6" charm square packs in fact.
It's been pretty challenging not having yardage or fat quarters to design with so coming up with a plan for using just the small squares required a few strong coffees, a fresh new sketch pad, and many sharpened pencils.
This line of fabric is gorgeous, and I know without a doubt that I'll be buying a few yards for a medallion quilt as soon as it hits quilt shops next month, but for now this is what I came up with.
It will become the centre of a mini medallion quilt (my prototype for the larger one I'll eventually make)...
At the moment I'm in the stitching stage...
...and hoping to finish it today because I also drew up a second version of this design and am itching to get my needle and thread dancing with it!
It's a smaller stitchery, surrounded by faux patchwork blocks made from tiny applique squares...
I don't know which one I love more!
Which is your favourite?
The smaller one will be included with the May Stitchery Club patterns.
I'll find a way to include as many of these prints as I can in both projects because I'd feel guilty choosing to use some and leaving the other cuties out. I know fabrics don't have feelings, but...?
I must admit, it's pretty darn nice to be starting a new week with happy prints and two new designs.
I hope your own week starts joyfully too!
hugs

Both are beautiful but I do love the little patchwork frame. I'm excited that it will be in the May stitchery club :). I do have a question when you are stitching on towels ( for example your March stitching club alphabet baking towel) do you still use the Whisper Weft? How do you make it look pretty on the back? Thank you so much for your help. Janita
Jenny,
Ambos são lindos!

They're both lovely! Your stitching is so beautiful. I'd like to see the patchwork quilt design stitched a bit first. I'd likely pick it because of the quilt motif. But both are so nice.
Good question, Janita. No, I don't use any stabiliser when I stitch on a tea towel. I'll share about that in another blog post very soon. x
Both are gorgeous, but I think the smaller one with the little scrappy frame is stunning. You are so amazingly talented. Your posts always make me smile.
A great start to your week...
I think I like the one using little pieces of fabric as blocks as my favourite... it was tough choosing though! xox
I like them both and yes fabric does have feelings. They all want to be out and about and admired. You are doing a fine job taking care of your fabrics needs.
Thankfully there is such a thing as a tie. Both are super fun with these great little fabric prints. You are sew talented dear. May will be a truly beautiful month. Stitching Bliss...
I love how you have made a small cutout in the base of the jug and inserted embroidery.
Lovely! They both look great. What fun the Faux patchwork border will be - like that! Super exciting it will be in May's Stitchery club. Sure, fabric has feelings and some of it is very naughty - it will jump right into a quilt when you are not looking, stick its tongue out at you and say Nah!..... no moving!
Lucky you! New fabric to pet. Still loving the polka-dot jug and flowers. The smaller pattern is really cute, too. Lucky me! It will be in May's patterns.🙆
Sorry, Jenny. I have no idea why this comment posted 3 times. I removed 2 of them so it wouldn't clutter up your comments too much.
My week, dear Jenny, starts very nice; today is our King's birthday, so we celebrate Kingsday and everywhere in the country are parties, shows, musical performances, fleemarkets etc. It is cold, but the sun is shining; we call it "The Orange Sun", after the name of our Royal Family.
The fabrics are so cute and both designs are lovely, though I prefer the second one.
Have a nice week, Jenny. Love, Rya

Hello Jenny! How can you expect us to choose between two such exquisite designs! I LOVE them both!! They are beautiful fabrics.... you are very lucky to have them to play with! Have a lovely week! :) x
They are both lovely but I am rather fond of the stitchery one with the faux patchwork blocks surrounding it. Yummy. I started the week today finding pure wool and starting to knit pouches for orphaned animals in the NSW floods. So, a lot of clickity clacking going on here instead of stitching.
I love them both, but maybe the second one a smidgeon more!
I love 30s fabric, and this collection looks gorgeous. I will have to look out for it.
Look forward to reading about how you do your tea towel embroideries as well.
Your work is always so beautiful! Love the soft green fabric. BTW, of course fabric has feelings! I always feel bad for the bits I trim off that won't make it into the quilt and I feel sorry for the thread that doesn't get to be a part of the quilting as I snip off the bits of thread after I have buried my knots.
They're both gorgeous!! I like both of them equally. Can't wait to see them when they're done.
You do such beautiful work. Love stopping by to see what you are up to.
I love 30's print's and those are really nice! I think my favorite is the print with the little square and hexie on it with the flower in the center. Hmmm...those puppies are very cute too! Am loving your designs for this fabric. Thanks for the peek!
Both are fabulous!!
you're asking us to choose?
my gosh that's a hard one! they are both beautiful! just love the designs you come up with always fresh & new
those fabrics are very adorable too!
thanx for sharing
Difficult choice. I like them both for different purposes, but am quite happy to have the smaller one coming next month. I loved the line of cherry prints in the 30s Retro. I was surprised to see, though, how many of the prints looked so American - I would have expected them to look more like the Japanese prints I bought from Japanese mills in the 80s and 90s. Japanese prints I always think of as different. Wonderful designs as always!
Oooooh!!!! I love that fabric....and no matter how you use it, it looks beautiful! I can't choose....they are too, too lovely to choose. Can't wait to see the finished projects.
They are both wonderful, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the larger pitcher with flowers. This is going to make a gorgeous center for a medallion quilt. I cannot wait to see what you come up with. Have a blessed and wonderful day Jenny!
lovely ideas Jenny, and those fabrics are gorgeous
