Like a little child - Mark 10:15...

Jesus said some things that rattled minds.
Today's Scripture is one of those rattles. I almost didn't share it because I know it stirs up a bit of discomfort for people, especially when they've spent a little too long on the fence and not long enough in the playground of the Lord, but having a one year old to amuse and be amused by this past week made me think about Jesus' words in a fresh light.

Frankie trusts her mummy and daddy. She runs to them for comfort and play. She relies on them to know when she needs her nap, and what foods are not good for her to eat. She holds their hand while taking her unsteady first steps. She hides her little face in mummy's shoulder when meeting a stranger knowing that in Aisha's strong yet gentle arms she is safe from danger.

Are we like that with God?

Frankie also tests her will at times. She will toddle away to grab something that sparkles or catches her eye and must be chased, scooped up, and brought back to safety. Most times there is a little struggle because her thoughts are still on what attracted her, but Aisha gently redirects her attention to something else, something which will not harm her, and she quickly settles.

Are we like that with God?

I think being like a child before the Lord is similar to the trust I saw Frankie put in her mum.
Trust that is sure. Trust that says from the depths of our souls, "Father, I know you will never harm me, I know everything you lead me towards is the best for my life, and I know everything you call me away from will bring me harm and separate me from You."

This next week I will be asking Father God to show me all the areas in my life where I have run from His safety.
And I shall ask Him to call me back with His gentle voice, to wrap me in His strong and secure arms, and to remind me of His safe place to rest.
Like a little child. Like little Frankie.

What about you?

I really liked your scripture choice. It reminds me I need to be meek, and humble, and teachable, so I can hear and understand what God's will is for me. I'm so glad you were able to have a lovely visit with your daughters and granddaughter. Wishing you all the best!

Lovey reflection. I love how you used a trusting child to teach us.

I don't think I understood God's love for me until I had a child of my own - and really realized what a relief it is to have Him to run to, to depend on, to trust with everything in me. Good post, dear Jenny-girl.

I have been thinking of that very topic this week Jenny. How Jesus wants us to trust Him with the simple faith of a little child. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Jenny, I think that you made a brilliant observation/comparison between what Jesus was teaching us and the trust of a child. Thank you for sharing and giving us all a lesson to explore and study. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you for the beautiful Christian post this morning. A child drowned at the city swimming pool yesterday. It has weighed heavy on my mind today. We need to trust that God's will be done and He will comfort these parents today and in the days to come.

Que Deus nos acolha sempre para nos confortar e nos guiar

Sweet Jenny, What a beautiful and inspirational post. Thank you so, so, much for deciding to share. After all, we need to be bold in sharing our love for the Lord and His love for us and the sacrifice He made so that we could trust Him with anything that troubles our hearts if we will just let go of those things and truly put them into His hands. I pray your message touched others hearts as strongly as it did mine. You are such a blessing and bright spot in my life. I don't get online much anymore but when I do, yours is the one blog I always check because I know it will feed my soul in some sweet way, whether it's a message, or a pattern you are sharing, so thank you again my dear friend for being who you are and brave enough to open your heart to us. Sending you HUGE cyber hugzzzz and keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers always. Nancy Jo

We are in complete agreement. I think that's exactly what Christ had in mind.

Little Frankie is so beautiful.
I refer to God as Abba as Jesus did. The literal translation as close as our language can come is Daddy. My father was not the best daddy in the world as he was quite abusive. When I came to know Jesus when I was 18 I had a very good relationship with Him but God the Father was hard because of the example of a father I had had. When I was in my 30's I read a life changing book by Brennan Manning called Abba's Child. Through that book I discovered that God loved me as a little child and only wanted the very best for me. That He wanted to be the Daddy I had never had. It was then that I could see the entire Trinity and not just Jesus. I have been trying to see myself as Abba's little child ever since. The book brought me to Abba who then healed the hurts of childhood. Abba, Jesus, Holy Spirit, we have all Three in One ready to be there for us, to guide us, to be our All in All. Amazing.

Another beautiful, thought provoking post. It is so easy to try to analyse our lives and work out solutions ourselves instead of taking each worry, concern or things we don't understand, straight to our Father and trusting him to work it all for our good. x
