A blooming Blossom...

Blossom is in her third trimester now, and though still experiencing health challenges she continues to bloom and glow. Becoming a mama is her dream come true and it really shows...

She dropped by to have lunch with me yesterday before we headed off to her pre-natal visit with the doctor. On the way home we had some things to buy at Chemist Warehouse and one of those purchases was a hot water bottle to help ease Blossom's back pain (she has scoliosis).
Remember back here when I made a pile of bath mats from Blossom's old towels?
Well we still had more of the towels at my place to recycle so before she went home I spent ten minutes making a simple cover for her hot water bottle...

A length of calico ribbon from my stash was sewn into the front...

...which then wraps around to secure the water bottle inside.

The seam runs down the centre back of the cover so the smooth front side can rest against her lower back...

Such a simple thing to make, but she was thrilled tucking it under her arm as she left to go home and I felt incredibly blessed to mother this beautiful young woman who appreciates even the smallest of gestures.

I will probably make her another one (with a few trims) before winter arrives but I know that it's not necessary in her eyes. She's quite content with what she has.
In fact I admire this young homemaker who has to balance a limited budget, make do and mend, prepare for a newborn's arrival, run a house, and lovingly care for the three males in her home (two dogs and her DB) whilst also battling health challenges in her pregnancy.
She makes me want to be a better me, which is the greatest compliment a daughter can give her mum.

hugs

Such a gorgeous girl you have. I love my hot water bottle too. Infact, I used it on my lower back this afternoon. The colder weather here has had an impact on my fibromyalgia grrrrr. So nice that you live close to Blossom. I bet she makes you glow.

She looks absolutely gorgeous. I know she can hardly wait for the time to go by. Emily blessed us with a beautiful little girl on Mother's Day! Rory Lou. We have all fallen in love with her. I am so glad that you will soon have a grandbaby close to you. It is so nice. We never had family near us when Emily and Eric were small. Our grandchildren are surrounded by grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. I am so thankful for this. I have been praying for Blossom and will continue doing so.

Oh my gosh Jenny, Blossom is literally "Glowing", bless her heart. I'm sorry to hear about her scoliosis and add in a pregnancy and I'm sure the problem in multiplied. I watched both of my daughters struggle with it. However...I was smiling through the entire post, between the pictures of your beautiful Blossom and the Hot Water Bottle, I was delighted. A hot water bottle seems so simple and old fashioned to many people, but I still keep one and immediately replace it when it gets old and loses the seal or cracks from age. They are so versatile and comfortable they just can't be beat. The greatest thing for me is that they add some support to my lower back, unlike a flat heating pad. I love the cover you made for it and you just know that Blossom will be truly tickled with lovely trimmed covers for it too. I was also able to find pediatric Hot Water Bottles, so tiny and cute but what a life saver when my little ones had a bad tummy, or even just to warm them up during our cold winters after their bath. Well, my dearest friend, I've rambled on quite enough about hot water bottles but I just had to comment on the post. Thanks so very much for sharing your pictures with us, I'll be watching for updates on your lovely daughter. I know you had two daughters expecting but I've missed many posts, I'm keeping you all in my prayers, always. I'll try to check in more often when I'm able. Big, Big, hugs...

Sweet Jenny, I forgot to ask, did you share the baby's gender or is it being held close to surprise everyone? More hugs, Nancy Jo

That is the sweetest post ever, and you've put up quite a few that brought me to tears over the years. I loved seeing the picture of Blossom and remember taking something similar when I was pregnant the first time, too. What a joyous time to share with her! I love your quick little water bottle cover. Great idea.

Good Morning Jenny! Such a beautiful photo of Blossom! Your special sewing of the hot water bottle cover is a splendid idea and I hope that it does help her! Living with pain is not an easy chore day in and day out, but when we continue to trust in the Lord and have a positive outlook, it makes a huge difference. I am so thrilled for you that you get to have these special times with Blossom. You are an amazing and wonderful Mother and Blossom is going to be the same! Thank you for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!
