BOM block 5, May...

Just a quick post today so I can share this month's Block of the Month pattern from "A Year in the Garden" with you.

I'm rather partial to geraniums and have a tea pot and coffee mug which feature them. When the children were young we grew geraniums in all sorts of containers, including an old boot, which should explain the inspiration behind this month's design.

I'm tempted to grow them again over this tropical late autumn/winter as it is very much a spring-like climate this time of the year and perfect for planting seedlings and cuttings. Mr E mentioned the other day he needs a new pair of work boots as his have developed some holes so it's possible there'll be two old boots very soon in my possession for just such a project.

For the embroidery in this block I've used blanket stitch for a few of the leaves because this gives more dimension to the overall finish...

...and the rest of the design is backstitch, satin stitch and running stitch.
You may prefer to embroider the whole pattern with a simple backstitch, or perhaps change things up and use a stem/outline stitch instead.
With any of my designs I encourage you to work to your comfort level and never be afraid of swapping a stitch I've used for one you prefer.

Block 5, May, is a free gift until the June block is released a month from now.

Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4 can be seen here and are available as a $2 purchase each from my shop.

I was asked to do a link up party this year so everyone could share photos of their completed blocks and that's a wonderful idea...but I'm having a run of ill health and migraines so as that is not a necessity in life it has been put to the side for now.

I'll leave you with a photo taken on Sunday of Cully May and Rafaella Lucy.
(21 months and 2 months)

I could cuddle these little angels all day long and never regret the aching shoulders and neck later that night, such is blessed Nana-love. xxx

May your day overflow with blooms of happiness, gentleness, kindness and joy!

hugs

Beautiful photo Jenny - and thanks for the pattern. We always have masses of geraniums here in France but they will not flower for some weeks yet so I may change the month to June! xx

Perfect picture of two little beauties, and it's easy to understand why you'd want to hug them to pieces! Thank you for this wonderful boot of geraniums. I think Paul left a pair of boots here that could be used as planters, too. =) I really like this design, and can think of several uses for it.

This is darling - I LOVE geraniums, they're such an old-fashioned flower but I can never get them to thrive! Maybe on fabric, though, lol. Keeping you in prayer dear heart, darling picture of the girls!!!

I've never planted flowers in a boot, but I have made a formal flower arrangement in a handbag (op shop--not one of mine!!) for a flower arranging class! Complete with small white leather (op shop) gloves!
