Using those Monograms...

Hi everyone!
Mr E and I are back from our whirlwind stay in Cairns, and no-one was happier than Princess Sophie.
Apart from the first few hours after we arrived on Monday, it poured rain the entire time we were there. An evening at a friend's house, and a meal at a Turkish sidewalk cafe were the only times we left the motel room (although Mr E was working so was gone in the car a lot of the time).
I did manage to get some stitching done during my alone times...
Cairns is a lovely little town nestled in the middle of cane fields and rainforest.
Here is the view driving in to Cairns...

And then the view driving out: cane fields and mountains inside the clouds...it was quite surreal!
Back home again last night, we opted for an easy dinner and sleep. It was lovely to be away, but I hope the next time is sunnier so we can get out more.
This week's letter in Monogram Monday was ~F~, and I showed you a photo of how I'd stitched it onto a linen heart...
Today I finished my intended project!
The monogrammed heart now sits prettily on a lavender scented pin cushion...

That button is from a dress Blossom wore about eight years ago, and the cotton lace edging is from another dress she wore in childhood.
The fabric is from April Cornell's range, "Nature's Chorus" which was the first fat quarter bundle I ever owned (2008).
It's so satisfying to put a small gift together with 'parts of your heart'.
This is destined for a favoured friend. No more hints though! She might be reading this blog post.
Have you used one of the monograms on a gift?

The scenery was so beautiful. I love the pin cushion with the monogram.

Sorry your trip was rained out. Nice to have uninterrupted hours to stitch, tho! Not even meals to make :-) I'm really eager to see the design you're working on with the musical notes.

What a pretty pin cushion Jenny! I love how you stitched the heart onto it. Your friend must be very special indeed :). So glad you had a relaxing time in Cairns.
That meal is too die for!
