Mr E and I have developed a regular weekend routine of packing our cameras and heading out into the countryside for some downtime after our busy working weeks.
Because we both work from home these Sunday wanderings in the 4WD give us a complete break from the office we share, and any business distractions.
Last Sunday we headed north west 'up the mountain' - my favourite of all places to be!
About half way up there's a fabulous vantage point where you can look down over Townsville and whilst Mr E casually wandered around taking photos of the view and the flora, I took photos of him taking photos...
Back in the car we headed further along the winding road, and higher up the mountain.
Being in the countryside you can just feel the worries of life slip away - breathing comes easier as 'life' in it's natural environment grounds your senses; audible gasps at its beauty are constant...
We even picked up a hitchhiker for about 40 klms...
And then there was the bushranger!
We watched as a bushfire came into view, hopeful that it was back burning and not out of control...
...and marvelled at how the sky matched the colour in the wildflowers.
Bellies grumbling with hunger, our cameras filled with photos to peruse on laptops later that afternoon, and satisfied we'd adventured enough for one Sunday, we headed home again.
Before settling down to go through the pics I pulled out the Wheat Belly cookbook and trialed its recipe for gluten free scones to serve with mugs of good strong coffee...
I added some lemon zest and cranberries.
Not bad. Not like a normal Aussie scone, but not bad.
I'll be in Melbourne next weekend, so while I'm away Mr E will be planning our next adventure - to a waterfall.
Think I'll pack a lunch for that one!
What wonderful photos! Thanks for sharing them with us! :0)
Love the photos!! Such a lovely country and I can see why it is so relaxing. Enjoy your trip to Melbourne.
Beautiful photos Jenny - your countryside looks amazing :-) Thanks for sharing your lovely outing x0x
The photos were great - thanks for taking us along on your journey!
Beautiful...and you are heading into winter -correct? Here in Green Bay, WI we broke a record for 50 days below zero in one winter and we aren't done yet. Getting sooo tired of cold and snow. Would love to go on a photo shoot with you right now. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Thank you for sharing your Sunday drive, beautiful photos, makes one want to get out there, so relaxing, a reminder of our upcoming trip to NZ Friday driving around both Islands with friends enjoying the beauty of NZ, looking forward to it even more now and have the cameras charged. Your scones look yummy, GF baking is different isn't it, I do a little for grandchildren and try different things and it agrees with me also. Have a good week, hope it continues as it started for you. Judithann
Enjoy your drive, Judithann!
Yes, GF is not the same as baking with gluten, but as long as you don't expect it to be similar you're not disappointed.
We're 4 days into autumn now, but as I live in the tropics we'll still be very hot for a couple more months. Then we have a very mild winter - much like a nice summer elsewhere. ;-)
Beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing. I am sure your husband got some great shots too. That hitchhiker looked settled and that bushranger looked dangerous. Glad you escaped him. Thanks, again.
We find that getting out into God's natural creation is so restorative. There's nothing like it for beauty and relaxation. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Thank you for sharing your day with us.
Wow, your country is so beautiful and wild! Love it! Hugs
Beautiful countryside and amazing photos. I do miss that about the north now we are down south. Even miss the tropical climate - loved it, apart from watching the mildew grow on the walls.
Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday. xxx
What a great way to unwind and take a break from it all! Are those like wild horses roaming??? Scones look yummy!
Thanks for taking us along on your trip to the countryside.
what a wonderful outing. Your photos are fabulous. I love these glimpses into your countryside. One day I hope I will be able to travel and see your country before I depart this Earth. And the scones looks delicious. I can almost taste them.
Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.
Lovely pictures Jenny - thank you. What a great trip. xx
Love to see the landscape of your beautiful countryside. Is this Austrailia? Well written post, thanks so much for your yummy biscuits, I'm GF and have just found the Wheat Belly book.
Gorgeous trip, thank you for taking us along!
