Sewing with Doc Martin...

Are you a fan of the British series "Doc Martin"?
Blossom and I love it!

We've watched the Doc since the first episode (around 2005 in Australia) and I think I'm ready to go back to the beginning and watch them all over again, especially as they'd be perfect for keeping me company during the afternoon stitching hours.
My other go-tos for stitching company is Monarch of the Glen, Poirot, Midsomer Murders, any Kirstie Allsopp craft show, Lark Rise to Candleford and Miss Marple.

What do you watch when you're creating with needle and thread?

On Monday afternoon I prepared this festive pretty for sewing during the rest of the week...

After carefully fussy cutting shapes from three of the aqua, red and white fabrics inside my bundle of 'Flower Sugar Holiday' I appliqued birds onto a white linen background and made some sweet little paper pieced hexies...

I know it's early in the year for Christmas patterns, but there's a lovely joy which bubbled out of my heart as I began to stitch this and I think that's rather lovely, don't you?

Do you make Christmas projects all year?
I haven't before, but things could be changing...

May you be blessed with a delightful day,
hugs

I always enjoy visiting your blog and "Sewing with Doc Martin" surely did catch my eye. My husband and I became so addicted we subscribed to Netflix just to watch ALL episodes! My husband recently became wheelchair and mostly homebound, so watching "Doc" has been our escape to the lovely English seaside village of Portwenn. Thank you for such an uplifting enjoyable blog to visit as well.

I think we are pea's from the same pod. We watch the same gendre of movies / tv, we love hand work, and believe in The power of our almighty God.

BBC productions are my constant companions while I stitch...we have very similar taste. I can't wait for the Holiday Flower Sugar fabric to become available. Such happy colors!

Love Doc Martin too. I watch many DVDs while sewing......Anne of Green Gables, The Sullivans, Carsons Law, nd many BBC productions. Netflix has a few good series too like Heartland and some good documentaries. Your Christmas project is looking beautiful. I do make Christmas things throughout the year and know many others who do so too.Enjoy stitching while watching your DVDs.

Oh, how I love Doc Martin. He's so socially awkward, it makes me laugh out loud sometimes. Love your stitching.

Yep...Doc Martin is my favourite to watch, along with Downton Abbey (I'm sad it's finishing) and English comedies/drama . Can never get enough of Doc and Louisa! Lovely Christmas designs too....hexies *swoon* xox

Yes!! I watch this too! Whilst visiting St Ives one year I had the pleasure of bumping into all the cast and the filming! It's was a real treat :)
Big smiles :)

I was watching that, can't remember why I stopped - I did enjoy it! Right now I'm hooked on Downton. My son got me season 1 for Christmas, and they just bought me seasons 2 and 3 for my birthday. I hadn't watched the first one yet, as I knew I'd get hooked and I was right. I watched ALL of season 1 last night, got absolutely no stitching done! I'm better listening to audio books while I stitch, lol.
Love your Country Square pillow, dear girl, the pics from your holiday-at-home, and your wee birdies!!!!

I don't always watch TV while I stitch...but...I always stitch while I watch tv....can't stand my hands being idle! I mostly watch Netflix these days but on weekend nights I swing by the ABC to see what English shows are on....Doc Martin is one of my favourites but then I adore Martin Clunes....have you seen his doco's about man and beast?....After I watched it, I am convinced he is my soul mate!

Love Doc Martin, Last Tango in Paris, Call the Midwife, and many more BBC series. I own the series Lark Rise to Candleford. Watch it over and again. I also love to listen to audio books. Your Christmas projects are lovely.

Nothing "Doc Martin" in Spain. I do not meet the Doc :) I see Downton Abbey, The Closer, and others in DVD.
It happens many times, I listen to and I not look at. Then I realize that the same actor who gives spanish voice ( ¿dubber?) in a series, also puts in another. And sometimes I think is a character in a serie , and after I see it is another character in another serie when I lift my head of the sewing .
Maybe better I should listen to audio book while I sewing :)

Currently watching Lark Rise for the time around... Just as good :) But when it comes to projects, I would have to listen to an audio book as I would get too distracted! :)

Jenny this is beautiful! I have not tried the hexagons. Are they fun?
I have never heard of your show but wish I could see it.
Love you!

Like minds seem to stitch together! Every program you mentioned is popular here as well, except for the craft one. Lovely, interesting, normal programming. No foul language or nudity. My kind of show.

I think one has to work on Christmas most of the year in order to finish in time. I start in earnest in July. I do need a little break now and then.

Love your little hexi's. Sweet.

With fabrics like that who wouldn't want to make Christmas things the whole year through!
Take care,

The linen looks light blue which makes the bird look as it's flying. I love hexies! A great combination.....My favorite shows to watch over and over are Midsomer Murders followed by Keeping Up Appearances. I also have watched all of Doc Martin and Monarch of the Glen. I enjoyed Monarch until the half brother came on the scene...if I watch reruns I stop when it gets there. I enjoy Doc Martin also but unlike many people...I think Louisa is getting too domineering and I dislike her more and more. She knew what he was like but she wants to change him and boss him around-it's her way or no way. If it was real life I would feel sorry for William. I also watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent. I love a good mystery. I would watch Dowton but only if they showed a marathon starting with the first show.

I love Doc Martin and you'll never guess - I've been accepted at the annual Buckham Fair that's held on his farm in Dorset. There'll be heavy horses, police dog displays and ... my patchwork quilts! I'm super excited!! I love your little bird and hexi project - it's absolutely beautiful. Do you have Downton Abbey over with you - you'll absolutely love that. Midsomer Murders has been a favourite in this house for years - and Poirot too. Great series for accompanying stitching in the afternoons!

Such a sweet little project with gorgeous fabrics! We've watched Doc Martin all these years too and in 2014 I nagged at DH until he agreed with me that we should visit Port Isaac where they film the show...it was a great experience walking around those same streets.
(Homes Under the Hammer, Lewis and Midsomer Murders, plus Poirot and Miss Marple are my favs for stitching/knitting by)

I make Christmas presents all year, but not necessarily Christmas themed. I love this design, Christmas or not Christmas would be gorgeous. Stitching it is sure to bring you peace and happiness.

My older son loves Midsommer Murders. I prefer Murdoch Mysteries and Star Trek, Mash, McGyver, Psych, etc. Lately, I've been watching the later Hawaii 5-0, though it can be a little violent sometimes. I like the interplay with the characters.

Doc Martin, Midskmer Murders, The Last Detective, basically any good mystery. Call the Midwife, is a good one as well.

Lately been listening to audio books from the library. Wow, there are some fantastic audio books out there, that way I get to do teo of my favourite past times, as once, "reading" and sewing.

We too loved Doc Martin and I enjoyed his documentary on his horses, Clunes is quite an animal lover. I adored Lark Rise, The Paradise, As Time Goes By, and many others. I love all the 'inspector' shows. Great viewing for stitching along. That fabric is so sweet.

Love the fabrics you are using in your project. I did read your post last night and decided to turn Doc Martin on Netflex while I cut out fabric for the next few blocks I am working on. Had to come back here tonight and thank you for the heads up because I am not sure I would have watch that particular program without being told it was a good one. It got me through some late night crocheting yesterday and an afternoon in the sewing room.

We ah e similar tastes,as do others in tvs shows. Love the doc. Your work is so pretty always.

I have just finished the latest season of Doc Martin, very much enjoyed it. I am now in need of a new program to watch. Some of my favorites, Call the Midwife, NCIS, Prison break these are just a few that I have enjoyed. I want to watch Poldark and Mr Selfrige, but unable to get them on Netflix. Great start on you Christmas gifts!

Good Morning Jenny! My hubby discovered Doc Martin on Netflix quite awhile ago and we sat and watched each and every episode! When I had the sewing machines set up in the bedroom, I would watch...actually listen more than watch...all sorts of movies like Harry Potter and Star Trek. Now that I am set up at the kitchen table, I do not watch anything except the scenes out my kitchen window.

I have never created Christmas gifts before December in the past. This past year taught me a valuable lesson and I am making gifts all year long. I had wanted to do special posts on my blog, but that has fell through with all of the computer problems we have had. But, I have been making gifts! I adore your birds and the fabrics you chose for them! Can not wait to see the whole project! Have a fantastic creative day!

Love those Christmas fabrics.
I loved Doc Martin too. It was a cracker of a series. Another favourite is Call the Midwife, absolutely love it. The last episode of the fifth series really needed the tissues.
Just watched the John Le Carre adaptation of The Night Manager, it was great.
I watched the full series of Dickensian earlier this year & it was brilliant. I'm not a major fan of Charles Dickens but it was an interesting series.
I've just finished watching the Australian series A Place Like Home & thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope they make another series the final episode we saw was a real cliff hanger where Elizabeth looks like she's having a heart attack & Sara drank rat poison. Whoa!!!!

What lovely fabrics. Yes I work on what I want not matter what holiday or season it is. We just recently started up the Netflix again after I found out they have Murdoch Murder Mysteries. Since I don't watch much television my DVR was over loaded with the daily recordings. Now I can watch them in order when I have time. I added Doc Martin to my list the other day.
