Want to make these birds? Free pattern...

A couple of weeks ago I made Allie's "Loaves & Fishes" mini quilt...

...and after I had cut out the applique baskets there were twelve pieces of fabric already fused with Vliesofix leftover from the centre of each basket.

Normally I'd toss these applique scraps in the bin but I'm far more conscious about using every piece of fabric these days, so I drew up two little birds and traced them onto the back of the scrap applique shapes...

With my light box it was easy to trace through the fabric and Vliesofix, and it was just as clear when held against the window.

After tracing, I cut away each of the three bird sections...

 ...and then mixed them around.

From there I kept going with more applique scraps and more birds...

I have a few ideas for how to display my pretty birds but they will have to wait until the weekend.
Perhaps you'd like to have a play with these tiny bird shapes too?

Download the free templates HERE in my shop.

What will you make with your tiny birds, I wonder?

hugs

they are so cute!
i've stopped throwing out ALL my scraps, even the tiniest yarn bits, they all go into containers to be used later on, yarn bits too small for anything can be used to stuff toys, pin cushions, etc, especially pure wool bits, these will make great pin cushions as the pins are less likely to rust.
can't wait to see what you do with your teeny birdies
thanx for sharing

I put all my bits and pieces of fabric, yarn, lace, etc. in clear glass Christmas balls. They look beautiful on my Christmas tree.

I am not sure what I will do with these adorable little birds, but it will be something with adorable fabric that shows off these adorable little birds! Thank you so much for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!

I wish you could see how hard it is being for me to type this...I just woke up and have not had my first cup of coffee or anything...it really is quite funny. I am just making sure to re read and retype each mistake!

Thank you Jenny! You are creative as well as thrifty! Actually, I would not have tossed those little pieces either. You would not believe the sizes of the scraps I save . . .

Thanks, Jenny! That was a great inspiration. I can just see them buttonhole-stitched in trees, on fences, even on a birdhouse-apartment building!

How seriously adorable are these - I can just picture a row of them along the bottom of a blouse, or down one side near the buttons, oh my goodness. They're so cute I want to wear them. Jenny, these make me happy, thank you, can't wait to see what you do with them!
