Signing off for Christmas with a gift....

It's time to stop and take in the wonder of this time of year so I'm going to step away from the blog over Christmas and join you again closer to New Year.

In the midst of Christmas mayhem and preparations may we keep our eyes and hearts focused on the Christ in Christmas, remembering that His eyes are forever on us and His love is being poured unceasingly into our hearts. How blessed we are.

If you'd like to stitch the designs on my Christmas pillow they are free to download HERE until December 26th.
Enjoy!

With love,

Free Pattern - buttons & bows...

A few months ago Lecien Fabrics sent me a bundle of next year's Flower Sugar and made me one of their fifteen "Flower Sugar World Ambassadors" (HERE)...

...and after carefully considering how to make best use of these pretty prints I'd decided (HERE) to update some of my old designs. Now believe me, choosing which designs to be updated is no simple feat, but a handful were eventually selected and on Saturday one of my most popular non-stitchery patterns of all time came to life in a Flower Sugar dress!

Originally the "Buttons & Bows" Bag was made using French inspired fabric, but this new one is a brighter and prettier version...

I was so chuffed when I finished it, which was just as well because it's a Christmas gift for one of my dear friends.

And because it's Christmas all around the world I thought I'd give it to you also.
Well, not the actual bag, but the pattern to make one for yourself.
After all, we've still got a few days left of...

...so why not make one for yourself and one for a friend?
You can download the free pattern HERE.

You know, if you're pushed for time and you have some sewing friends that you need a gift for, why not print up the pattern and make up a kit from your stash?
I'm sure they'd be very happy with a project all ready to make in the New Year!

bless you heaps

Crochet Organizer pattern...

I shared this idea a couple of years ago, but as my *Homemade Stitched With Heartstrings* theme this week is organizers it seemed a good idea to show you again and this time add the downloadable pattern for you to save.

My inspiration for making this vintage-style hook organizer back in 2012 were two beautiful handkerchiefs sent to me a year or two earlier by Vicki in Canada...

...but the project lay dormant until the right fabric presented itself.
Once found, it was full steam ahead. This organizer became a decoration for my home as well as having a very useful purpose!

Perhaps you have a crochet enthusiast to make for?
Or would you make it for yourself?

Download the free pattern HERE.

bless you heaps,

Free books...

E-books are a wonderful resource for almost any subject and I was thinking that it would be a lovely gift to print one up for a friend and have it bound at your local Officeworks (or similar office supply store).
Once done you could cover it in pretty fabric and sew a label across the front!

Here are a few free crafting e-books I found on the web to get you started.

"Inspired by Tilda" has five quick projects to make.
Download page is HERE...

A precious 1910 book of sewing instruction for young ones, "When Mother Let's Us Sew" can be downloaded HERE...

What about "65 Amish Recipes"?
The download is on THIS page with a few other books you can choose from...

Still looking for Christmas ideas?
"Homemade Christmas Gifts" can be downloaded HERE...
(you don't need to put your email in the box that pops up - just close that box and the book will begin to download)

Want to learn a new craft?
Download "Learn How to Knit" HERE...
(you don't need to put your email in the box that pops up - just close that box and the book will begin to download)

Always a good resource to have on hand, "Children's Sewing Patterns" can be downloaded HERE...

And of course, if you have a book you need a bookmark!
Download this free stitchery pattern set over HERE in my shop.
It will be available until December 18th...

Free pattern! Christmas Tea Wrapper...

So if you've been following along on the blog this week you will have made a Bow from THIS tutorial...

...and a blend of Christmas Tea from THIS recipe.

Today you can put them both together in, and on, a pretty 'Xmas Tea' wrapped jar for Christmas gift giving.
You might even keep it as a display for your home...

This is a quick project so you might like to set up a production line and make a few in one day.
But remember to keep one for yourself, okay?

Download the "Christmas Tea Wrapper & Trim" pattern HERE until December 26th.

For those who are wondering, the two fabrics I used for this pattern were from a 2010 line by Kate Spain (12 Days of Christmas) and are still my favourite seasonal prints. I have less than a fat eighth of each left which will hopefully be used in something small very soon - just for me.

It's Friday here in Australia and I'm about to sit down and finish a secretly *splendid* 2016 design that must be posted to the USA by Monday, so I shall leave you with my blessings for a relaxed and refreshing weekend which hopefully includes a few hours in your sewing space...xx

Tutorial - make an I LOVE YOU heart...

Today I'm sharing a very simple gift you can make for our Homemade Stitched with Heartstrings project!
Small projects that use our fabric scraps and don't require hours of time to sew are perfect for making a few at a time.

This little heart has a simple embroidered "I Love You" message down the centre but you could omit the stitchery and replace it with a strip of lace or contrast fabric instead.

Let's begin!

Download the free "I Love You" stitchery pattern HERE.

Stitch the embroidery on a piece of fabric 3 inches wide and 8 inches long, and trim back to 2" wide after stitching...

Sew pieces of contrast fabric down both sides of the embroidery.
I used pre cut scraps but if you're cutting your fabric you'll need pieces at least 3 inches wide and the same length as the embroidery...

Fuse a piece of scrap Pellon or Parlan measuring 6" inches wide x 7 inches high behind the block...

Trace the heart outline from your pattern sheet onto a piece of template plastic and cut out.
Trace the shape onto the centre of your block using a pencil.
Alternately, just cut out the paper heart shape and use it to trace around...

Sew a line of running stitch just outside the edge of your embroidered section...

Cut along the traced line of your heart shape...

Choose your backing fabric and lay the heart face down onto it. Pin in place.

Sew around the edges with a 1/4 inch seam, leaving a 2 inch opening along one side.
Carefully clip notches in the curve of the heart...

Turn your heart right side out, fill with polyester toy stuffing (and lavender flowers if you like) before ladder stitching the opening closed.

If you have some orphan stitcheries lying around you could even use them as the entire heart front, or what about doilies? I shall be playing with my doily stash to make more hearts and I will show them to you once they're made.

Please leave your blog link in a comment below if you're joining the Homemade Stitched With Heartstrings project in the lead up to Christmas and I'll add your link to my sidebar with the other lovely bloggers who are sharing ideas!

(don't forget to visit them and see what projects they've found on the web or made themselves)

Have a lovely Friday!

The Booby Bird - free pattern for breast cancer awareness...

I don't have breast cancer.
Maybe you don't either.

But I know women who have had it, and I know gals who have it now.
You probably do too.

It's even possible that a sweet lass reading this blog post today has just been diagnosed.

I cannot begin to imagine the depth of shock and fear when confronted with such a diagnosis, but I do know what it feels like to hear of a loved one's Goliath battle and be faced with the reality of having no power to change her circumstances.

And here's where The Booby Bird makes her appearance.

We can sew.
We can pray over every stitch with heart felt love and compassion and hope.
We can frame our booby bird in a way that makes sense to the precious woman we'll be gifting it to.
That might be on a bag or pillow, in a quilt, or inside a pretty frame - you'll know best.

We can do a little thing. We can say I love you. We can hold and hug and hand over a little bit of us made for them.

"The Booby Bird" is not for fundraising because there's a lot of avenues for that already.
She is for making and giving and loving and hoping.

It's for our loved ones.
It's for us to 'do' a very small bit.
It's a voiceless "I love you".

It's an encouragement that even without a boob or two, our breast cancer affected loved ones and friends are unique, beautiful women carrying boundless potential to be more than they can imagine right now.
That's where the hope comes in.
That's where a message of life comes in.

Download the free pattern HERE and share this blog post via those social media buttons just below so others can make it too.

If you're a brave booby cancer girl, I'm in awe of your strength and fortitude in facing a giant that would make me faint. I know you didn't choose to armour yourself for such a battle, but you have done so anyway.
My prayers, and those of everyone reading this post or stitching The Booby Bird, are with you sweet one.
